10pts:  Make sure you have a good reel with an excellent drag on it--plastic drags will get melted--not kidding.  Fly reels for trout & bass do not require a drag, but no so when fishing for salmon--its more important than the rod in my mind.  Good Luck.

while on this subject..  instead of using a sinking fly line . has anyone spooled up their fly reel with braided line?   I have 125yds of backing  .. how often do you get spooled on a fly rod?  Thanks

You won't get spooled. They will take you into your backing some, but not more than a few yards unless you stay put & let them head for the lake with it.
Use floating line. Less hang ups. Any brand will do. It takes a beating up there.

I can't help you on the flossing thing.
The deal is getting a fish to strike.
Flossing/lifting/lining= snagging & snagging is illegal in NY.
However- it does happen. Any time you see a report with someone reporting a bunch of hookups in a short period they are most likely flossing.
The fish will strike if you let them. Not all of them mind you, but that's fishing.
