It was great back then.  Like, really underrated.  Then in 1993 a slug of acid mine water killed nearly the whole river that flows through PA.  It's slowly recovering, holds bass now and some trout in some places, but is nothing even close to what it was in 1990-1992.

When I lived in Rockwood I used to fish the hell out of the stream. I heard the same arguments then (that it was dead) I used to maul Smallies, Brown Trout, Cats, Stickbacks, and an assortment of Darters from the creek.  I would fish from the mouth of Cox's Creek and wade upstream. I also did well below Rockwood too.  Never once did I share so much as a section of river with anyone else. I honestly cant remember a time when I didnt catch double digit numbers on the river. That was probably 2003-2005

I'd guess the town of rockwood is about 20/25 miles from confluence. There are a couple of short cuts but i think you'd
save time taking the main road thru new centerville due to the conditions of the back roads.

The cassleman is a great stream. 3 of my friends fish that every year during the first day of trout and always catch some real beast out of there as well as numbers.

I myself perfer it at the confluence. smallies, trout, muskie its all good fishing.

There was an acid mine problem but theyve done well to correct it.

I started fishing it in the mid-late 90's.  It might be my favorite place to fish.  I rarely see anyone when I'm fishing.  I mostly fish around Fort Hill.  I've caught rainbows, browns, smallies, and pike.  The bike trail is good for getting in and out.

If people want to think that whole river is dead, at one point no too long ago it was, and would rather stack on top of each other at the Yough outflow to catch trout that were stocked the week before.  That's fine by me.  Casselman is a big, long river.

I have never fished Fort Hill, but I do stop every time. I walk out on the bridge and look at the water. Always crystal clear and just endless holes it seems up and down both sides.
