The hook I pretty much use for single eggs, glo bugs, sucker spwan, soft hackles and crystal spawn is the Mustad 3399. I don't know if it is the best hook, but it is a pretty good hook and it is not too expensive, less than $3.00 for 50. I usually tie up the flies on a #14.

Mustad 9174 egg hook, I use them for sucker spawn, single egg patterns, glow bugs, egg sacks when not fly fishing. These hooks are strong and have a short shank and are dang sharp. I've tried a lot of different hooks, but this one is my favorite. I use sizes 8 and 10 depending on how big of a fly I want to tie. There not the lightest weight hook but they won't bend and I've never had a problem with catching plenty of steelhead with them.

Powerun I use the same hook and i like them alot. I have never straightened one out on a fish and they are dang sharp. When its real cold you can burry one in your finger very easily like i have. The good news is since they are so small they come out kinda nice. lol I buy them in bulk by the hundreds, its cheaper to buy them that way and a hundred will last me 2 years or more if my nots and line are good. I bought the last bunch 2 years ago and i still have 30 to 40 left. Good fishin to ya

Yeah, Daiichi style 1120 are great. $10 per 100 at Poor Richies. I have straightened out the size 20(a couple times yesterday). But 18's and larger I've yet to straighten. Even when I have straightened out the size 20's, it was my fault, I have a bad habit of horsing in fish if they are just "average" size. Being the slightest bit careful and they'll hold up.

I use Daiichi 1120's and 1150's for globugs and sucker spawn. I use raven hooks when I am fishings sacs. The ravens are rediculous sharp.

ORIGINAL: pin_drifter Daiichi sytle 1150's love them....... The 1120's are stronger, they have a downturned eye (scud hook) which I think holds better than the 1150's did too.

1120's are a close second right behind TMC 2457's in my opinion. They are pretty similar hooks but, I like the bend on the TMC a little more. 1120's are still great hooks.

Maybe i'll have to try some 1120's stilhead,,,,but honestly been fishing the 1150's for about 6 years and never had a problem plus kinda fond of the turned up eye opposed to the scud hooks i tie for eggs, or sucker spawn,,,,but thanks for the info i'll give anything a try. Jig master.

Daiichi 1120 scud hook hands down the sharpest hook "I've" ever used. Rustdads are "acceptable" at best to me. (they're better than Eagle Claw Laser Dull though IMO) BTW, I also get more hook ups on them due to the 1120 scud shape sz 16 is my favorite size for yarn 14 and 16 for nymphs As well as a couple/few of larger and smaller sizes ..L.T.A.

I quit using all Tiemco hooks I have had loads of trouble with them breaking. I loved the 200r's for nymphs very disappointing. It wasn't just a bad pack or a bad batch because I bought them again and we still had trouble months after the first batch.

I never once had a problem with TMC hooks or Daiichis. Mustads have been the worst to me over the years, I got way too many defects with them, so I no longer use them in any style. I see your point, if I were in your shoes and had a bad experience with the TMC's I would have done the same as you by ditching them. All it takes is one bad experience to make me quit using a particular brand.
