Should I come

Hi Guys, This is my first post. I've only been fishing for steelhead for two years and have the bug bad. I'm from Uniontown Pa. and have the next three days off from work. I was wondering if you guys think it would be worth it to make a trip to walnut? i don't need to catch alot a couple a day would be fine. Is there enough water or do you expect any tonight. Thanks for the help

Go for it. All the rain we've just gotten I'd think there probably a sizeable run of fish, if not happening now then in the next couple of days. Sides you may be sliding by not seeing a massive crowd, always a plus

Anytime you get to fish is worth the time.  It is most definitely not the peak and from the water levels in Walnut as well as water temperature, I would guess you will not a ton a fish around, but who knows.  If I were you, I would start near the mouths of the creeks before sun up and fish until mid morning and then head back down and fish from sundown until as late as you like.  We really did not get that much rain the last few days, not near what was called for, but we did a little.

    Good luck...

Chainsaw good luck my friend always sure their is a few fish to be had,,,going to tell you right now if you have experince you'll get a few a newbie might struggle to keep his head up out of the water........a informant of mine was up this pass weekend said it was iraq low clear and sand bars and seen no fish caught.....they didn't get the rain they though they was going to recieve they need at least 4 inches of rain in a day to get things moving sand bars blocking everything ,,,,so take it for what it's worth. My honest advise to you is wait till the 2nd 3rd weekend of october and it will be stacked with fish. Low or high their will be numbers......But hey good luck post how you did have a safe trip my friend.

Quit ****ing and take a kid fishing !!

Have a good time.  There are fish in Lower Walnut.  Manchester has 30-40 fish in it and the project water has 10 or so fish in it.  The only problem at this point is that the water is so low that one or two people is all that can fit in the project water since the only deep spot, where the fish are, is right under the falls.  Don't be afraid to walk up past the chutes to the top fall around the bend...just sayin'...  Also, work the lake if the conditions are right.

Thanks All, I came up with a crazy idea. I strapped my Fly pole and net To my Harley Ultra Classic one way or the other I'm going to have fun. so if you see a black and silver dresser setting in the parking lot stop and say hi. I'll get a room at the elk creek lodge when I get done fishing in the mornin.

Ok, I'm back. Tues. mornin started out slow had a couple hits before i dust the rust off. Caught my first one around 7:25 nothing after that untill afternoon. about 5:00 they started hitting at the falls above the shoots caught a small jack and a 8 pounder. Wed. got there at daylight caught 2at the project waters and 2 back up at the falls (i'm starting to like those falls) left the water at about 10:45. Had a older gentlemen stop while i was get out of my waders and said he has been coming steelhead fishing for 27 years and never seen anyone go steelhead fish on a harley. We had a nice little chat for awhile he was giving me some of his secrets. Had a great ride home and can't wait to come back up in early Oct.

I'm considering doing this with my Ninja.  Did you put the waders in saddlebags?  My waders are my biggest concern on where to put them.  The rest of the gear I can strap down easily enough.  How was the ride?

Bunge cord them to the back seat . I rode up with them on the back seat but i eventually put them in the tour pack. the ride up was good untill I hit butler then it got a little cold. i pulled over put my chaps on and i was good. With the temps dipping into the fortys at night I don't think i would be standing in the creek in tennis shoes in the early mornin. My therm. on the Motorcycle said 48 deg at 4:30 in the mornin on tuesday.

    Chainsaw,
If it's cold and you have neophrenes' just put them on over your pants.   When I was in the Army we used to train in really miserable wether.  I had an old pair of waders that I cut a "fly" in and I wore them under my biggest pair of BDU's.  Later I added a thin wet suit top.  Folks couldn't figure out how I seemed warm and dry in the worst weather.  Just have to get out of them for a while part of the day.  Even used them for deer hunting.  Warm, dry  (esp DRY) and comfortable.  Never could figure out a way to wear the scuba hood without it being too obvious.

I strongly considered this.  however, I have the rubber waders and a sport bike.  Maybe they would match the rest of my armor!    I think I got a solution but I'll wait until next week to give it a shot.
