Great news for Pittsburgh!  I enjoyed the Bassmasters in 2005 and this should be as much fun.

They can claim that kind of viewership, but that's not going to happen.  80 million in the US will not be watching a bass tournament, even this one.  If by watching they mean for a few seconds while surfing channels than maybe.  As far as 350 million other people watching around the world?  Problem with the exposure to the city is that no thinks 3 rivers when they think of bass, and it will prove itself again.  I would rather drive 4 hours to fish the Susky than spend a day bass fishing on what are shipping lanes.  They are certainly in there and some to good size, but I have caught way more trophy eyes, cats, and wypers than black bass.

Isn't the idea of this to make it challenging for these pro's?  I am sure most of them want this challenge and would rather not just go to sum super lake and catch 50lbs in one day.  Just my idea's

I know personally I would want to take on that challenge of catching bass in the three rivers if I was a pro.  But I am buy no means a pro.

You're right Ax, it should be the hardest "track" or body of water to catch fish in. What better than the 3 rivers. Can't get any worse than the catches they had a couple years ago.

The viewing number is a few days of coverage.  Still higher than I thought.  Although I did find myself watching it a bit, as well as going to the free weigh in, and even watched them from the Waterfront in Homestead for a few minutes.

Any tournement, sporting event, business convention, ect. is welcomed by me (within reason...).  It will at least bring some of the regional sportsmen into town.  Buy a few meals, drinks, suveniers, maybe even make a weekend out of it with the family.  There is a lot for a family to do in town.  Not that Pittsburgh is the gateway to Cosmopolitia, but is a great place to take the little inspiring musicians, artists or business people of the region.

I agree with the venue not being anywhere near a fisherman's paridise.  Especially the average guy/gal/family that doesn't have a boat.  I do like that they try to make it a challenge for the pros.  I personally have caught more smallmouth and spotted bass than anything else in the past year from the rivers.  Not that I have caught many of them or much size to them.  The rivers seem to change every year though.  One species seems to have a good year, then another, and so on.

Joe, they fish for smallmouth and spotted bass too.  If it was all largemouth, they may end up only having 2-3 fish caught for the whole tournement (or trailering to some local lakes...).  There are some hog smallmouth in the rivers, which was supposedly a good part of what made the area attractive.

I know its all black bass- spot, large, small.  Still a pretty lackluster system for those species.

From what i read about bassmasters pro's expiriences, pro anglers didn't enjoy the three rivers all too much, even though i do agree it is the best way to test the best anglers, but theyd probably rather go to alabama and fish a mud puddle reservoir because they all know how to catch fish there.

The smallmouth bass I've been catching on the Juniata this year have been blowing away smallies from the 3 rivers, yough, etc.  And I thought the smallmouth fishing this summer on the Allegheny way pretty good.  Limits that would crush KVD's winning stringer from 2005.  So much for the stunted fish growth, there are places that are booming from lack of pressure (a serious lack of pressure....and that's hard to find in PA), and tons of feed.

They should lock up river to the Beaver by the dam in New Brighton, plenty of big smallies there. I catch lots of them and most are much bigger than what I saw the pros catch in 2005. It would take a while to get there, but it might be worth it.

I think that this would be a great thing for the Burgh. There are plenty of smallies in the rivers and a lot of them are bigger than they were in 05. As for where they are, that is up to the pros finding where they are. Thats what they make the big bucks for!!!!

when the bassmasters was here in 2005, every pro I heard or read about said they loved the experience in Pgh,a nd that they would definitely come back in a couple years when the bass had grown some.  I personally think this will be great for the city.

    Now, they're back...

Ive heard some people on this board say that they would blow the pros out.  Well, let's not forget that those pros all caught tons of fish every day, just not a ton of keepers.  I personally talked to skeet reese at the weigh in, as well as pennsylvania guy David Wolak, and they both said that a couple days they caught 60 plus fish, but only 2 or 3 keepers.

So...while we all would like to believe that we could outfish them, I don't think so!

"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men."

JEB I beleive that the pros can only cast up to the buoy or maybe only the bridge on the beaver. I know that during the classic the rule on all the dams was that they were not allowed to cast past the buoys. Also, quite a few pros, like takahiro omori, did go up into the beaver during the '05 classic.

I don't fish the big rivers much at all so I cant say,  but I remember when Bassmasters was here a few years ago- the pros caught mostly small fish.   Certainly good for the city and keeps people buying the licenses.
