Walleye Fly?
Anyone got a deadly fly pattern for walleye? I found some online, but would like to know from your own experiences.
I am trying to become a purist to fly fishing as Krott243 and Mossy Oak!

Try a Clouser in orange,yellow and chartruce.
I tied some for a fellow I used to work with and the walleyes in Chataqua Lake tore them apart.

I have to second the clouser.... allows you to get deep, plus it immitates a valuable foodsource to the walleye: minners!!
Can't beat a clouser, even with conventional tackle, in the Ohio River and tribs in my area when the walleyes are running/staging... you should see the looks on some of the people's faces when you show up to the river bearing a fly rod... then, you should see the look of shock and awe as you leave with sore arms after catching so many fish!!!
I also like to use a double-bunny when fishing for eyes in the local rivers...
you can google either pattern for tying info...

I've caught some with a clouser also. Make sure your deep. Thats the key.

I prefer flies with some movement for walleye fishing.
The clouser works, but is not a go to pattern for me personally.
I like to use double bunny patterns and zonkers with extended tails. A simple rabbit strip leech in olive and black are killers as well.
Don't forget a simple wooly bugger with a conehead to get it deep and have a jigging action.

Guys, I wouldn't call myself a inexperienced fly fisherman but have never really fish for much other than trout and panfish with a fly rod. Any keys on how to get the fly deep or work it as your fishing it?

Fast sink line and heavy clousers will get 'er down!
Change up presentations...Strip, strip, pause, strip, strip, pause works in most situations for me!
I got a 6 lb eye in front of Godfrey last spring and it was pretty sweet! BUT, blind casting a sink line over and over agian isn't for everybody! Bring an ice pack..lol

There's too many game fish around to waste your time flyfishing for walleye. Chuck some crawlers out and whack a limit of logeyes, then go flyfish for gamefish.

Clousers will do the job. Personally, I don't fish much with the streamers, but when it comes to walleye that's what I use.

Ditto what Mike said. Change up the presentation to find what they want.
With flies that have lead eyes or bead heads, a strip pause strip pause works well because it has a jigging action. Flies with movement built in can be fished slower with a more steady retrieve, or dead drifted and swung in moving waters. I've actually done very well fishing buggers under an indicator for eyes below river dams.

I've caught probably around 40 or 50 'eyes on flies over the past few years- I think every one of them was on a Clouser. Hard to beat, as the others here have mentioned... If you're fishing over deeper water and over structure, use an integrated shooting head, like a Teeny or something similar. BTW, most of my walleye were inadvertent catches while targeting other species... Here's a nice one from this past April.

Out of curiosity what were you targeting when you caught them? You'll have to excuse my ignorance my knowledge with fly fishing is limited to the basics, what is a integrated shooting head and I assume a teeny is a kind of integrated shooting head. I've been a spin cast fisherman my whole life and just started picking up fly fish the last few years, its definitely held my interest.
