TwoB,  I think the year you are referring to was 2007.  My daughter was in her freshman year at SUNY Oswego and I managed to get a couple of hours in at 2A during Parent's Weekend.  The CFS was running about 100 that day.  I don't recall ever seeing it that low.

I'm sure you are right.
Not really caring too much about exact details right now.
They didn't close the river down during the worst drought year.
That says they won't close that piece of water down for any reason.

I think they might do okay , as they are catering to a different client base. It will be the corporate types, first timers and 1 trip a year/lifetime folks that will be the meat of their business. I met many a person that has said they always wanted to go to the SR but did not want to just book a motel and go in blind. This could be their way to experience the SR. I feel for the people that are loosing their fishing spot. I know the day I loose one of mine it will suck, time and effort build confidence and that is the biggest factor. I do think that the local community might benefit from the added business. DB understand about the open space for the kids. But maybe hey would do something for them. The kids need that space mostly during the summer which really would not conflict with the peak season worth asking ?

There are hundreds of acres of NYS Forest land within a bicyle ride of Altmar.  The kids will make out. What about all the kids in urban areas that never see a park.

This aint worth its own thread so figured here is as good a place as any--
Just got my 'school tax' bill. $700 bucks- NOT including regular property tax- just 'school'.
Plus gear, supplies, food, household stuff and patronizing local business in many other different ways.
NEVER tell me that those POS outa staters dont contribute to the local economy.
NOT crabbin bout the price -knew that goin in- just the negative philosophy some maintain.

I think your confusing us with the other site RG. Haven't heard pos mentioned.
While I don't want to trade mine with TB but $125.00 a week for 52 weeks gets skimmed outta my pay for taxes on my POS house and 2 acre property, with only dead neighbors around

My escrow account pays out over $11K in City/Town/School taxes with no services such as sewer/water/sanitation (septic/well/private waste removal).  That a lot of nights at the Tailwater Lodge.

Think of this... why should this lodge get slammed with taxes for a place that doesn't even exist??? It has not made millions yet...only invested thus far. Wouldn't one think that it would only hike taxes up region wide???? Is that fair???? Is that PC??? I think the 10 year adjustment is fair to all as no one in the region has ever paid taxes as high as most would assume this new tailwater should pay. Why should it start now??? In fairness to most tax payers in the region its a wise move in my eyes.
Upstate NY has always had promise for lower taxes in northern regions. Let's try to keep it that way. Maybe this thread should go to the off topics board

DB as far as a place to go for the kids there was just that little playground, that's  it and I hardly saw people in it.  Little to no community functions in there.   It will not be missed for that.   As rural kid everything is just so far away we just make due in our back yards.

As far as I am concerned the only POS out of staters are the ones that are drunk on the river, throw there $hit everywhere  and do not respect the fishing.     There are just as many POS in staters in my book.

RG, HT, TB  I hear you on the taxes I just go my bill and I too have no water, no sewer and no trash pick up.   Just get the road plowed  at least 1x a day in he winter (usually if it needs it or not).   I scrimped and saved,  never went to a movie or out to dinner for a few years and  built in stages to get my house built and payed for and I will never own it.    500$  a month for taxes and the upstairs is not even finished.

I have water on a meter. No sewer or trash.
I pay what the assessor puts the value of my home not how much I make.
If I were to invest a hundred thousand in my home then it's value would go up thus my taxes go up.
Why should my neighbor pay less ?

And that's a big problem,  it's what the Assessor thinks.  It is loosely based comp sales and without taking day's off from work, hiring an independent  appraiser and possibly a lawyer it is up to them.   Case in point  my neighbor has a house that is 500sf larger than mine, has more acreage by 20 acres.   Has an acre pond and was COMPLETELY remodeled 10 years ago due to a fire.   Took the house down to almost  the foundation and replaced EVERYTHING.   His assessment is 35k less than mine,  reason assessor gave me was that his house was built in 1985 and mine in 2003.   His house is actually newer than mine building wise.   Had the nerve to tell me that a pond does not add ANY VALUE whatsoever to the property.

Enough of this rant though.

Business is in a biz for a profit , thus also adding to the value of the property. Business pay more in taxes then residential . It's businesses that are supposed to lower the tax base of the community as a whole. So if theirs is less then someone else is picking up the tab.
Unlike a Joe Dirt who only adds value from money out of his own pocket .

Quite right , enough bull crap, they will close in five to seven anyway . I will probably never step foot on the property again so who cares if NY gives stream access away .
Nuff said by me

So it looks like they will start accepting us inmates 3/1/14 at a super low rate of $179.00 + tax .. Also will host the elite group of water hogs in June.. I can't wait and already reserved a room for 3 days for me and my corporate buddies, on the company credit of course :)

I was wondering............. if someone wanted a "True Adirondack experience"   why would they not got to the  True Adirondaks.  They will have some takers during the peak season, but any normal Joe will take a room for 1/2 the price or less in town when possible.  Can't wait to stop by and watch everyone cast to their side

I cruised through town last night and noticed the lights on and a clean finished look inside. I am no where's near the caliber of a room stay at that place but I've heard quite a few folks talk positively about it and seemed to be looking forward to it... definitely not my cup of tea but to each their own... I don't think they'll put a hurting on any of the local joints. Either rich new comers or high end corporate types or filthy rich trustafarians who normally stayed in the cuse will probably be staying there.

I read the not subscribed FB page.. It is getting some welcome.. I guess that is good and hope it helps in the local economy. As for access, it was good to me over the years from in the early 80's to park next to the plugged in busses tucked near the snow banks.. It was very cool on winter weekend for a long good run in time.. Then it was not, totally understood and made the walk from the smoke house .. Sometimes feeling funny on week days with school in session but was always given a wave from the playground monitors.. Once again later in life the signs went up... An even more uncomfortable feeling of I was doing something wrong..It seemed accepted however from the trails in the snow so on I went..
It was a pleasant side of the river, A good winter holding area that from the south had the least pressure.. I caught and lost many good fish and the memories of working until 3am then being on the water at 6 in sub zero weather are forever frozen in my mind..
The last and most likely final time was 2 years ago in the Barrel with Charlie... It was a grand day.. The fishing was good (we each had tugs) and the company was great..
While there are miles of river open to the public it's just sad , for me to see this one or any get taken away with walls and fences

Funny thing.  I was at  Marcellus tonight watching the BBall  game and started talking to this lady.   Come to find out it was her sister and brother in law that owns the corp that bought the school.

Coming from someone from Ohio, that is funny. Everything in Columbus was a Chain when I was there.  Corporate America rules again, just make sure to buy your new lowered price non-resident license.

Clint I have a friend who ended up inadvertently hanging with the son of the "owners"... apparently everything is in the sons name... I do have good wishes for them... and I do hear where you're coming from tuna... smokehouse???? That brings back great memories. I've gone through some old stuff and found some old mustard salmon fly hooks with smokehouse price tags on them... that was a great warm up place for me with a cup of hot chocolate next to the wood stove and the thick smell of smoked salmon lingering... it was snob less back then for sure...

I do like fine dining and can have a pallet for expensive foods but something tells me the Altmar hotel will see my money for food 99.9-100% of the time over the tailwater... the new owners there are doing a great job in my opinion... service has stepped up...owners are there often... food is good... even a family atmosphere for dinners with young children in the mix... no matter how hard anyone tries to change the face of this region they will have a hard time taking the heart away from it...

Dime, last fall I "tried" to sample the new menu at the Altmar Hotel and could n't get past the LOUD noise that was playing on the juke box. When I got out of my car on their parking lot I was blasted by it but thought well it can"t be that loud inside.....WRONG!.....it was louder inside.I left and never returned.
I will look in on the new eatery that the "prison" has to offer but there is no way I'll pay for a room.

Jack I hear ya on that... I steered clear of there in to November for the most part... I do miss the quiet side of that place as it used to be much more quiet... and the juke box used to be one of the old fashioned ones... I do hate these newer overpriced juke boxes these days.
now that they are the only gig in town it gets way too packed for my likings during the silly season... had dinner there a few nights ago with the family and it was packed with mostly families... service was quick too...
