We just broke the zero mark.
At high noon it's a whopping 1 deg out without wind chill.
Brutal I say, brutal

Ps: I see Charlie's town recorded -30 and Granville was -22
GD brutal !!

Well the Car said minus 19. The sensor for the weather stations is under an roof but open on all sides

The minus 19 in the car was at 0700.  I need to move the sensor for the indoor.    It is not in the sun at any time, but under a roof on an open back porch and that can hold a little heat in.

Yes, sounds like it can be swayed inaccurately clint. I really wanted to walk out in the field with mine this morning to see what it was out there but my normal half of my brain convinced me not to

Re:Weather thread 2015/02/16 19:00:55 (permalink)

Cold as it was, I refused to go hang  5/8 fire x sheetrock and handle screws in a below zero garage. Nancy had the day off, so we went and hiked up a series of frozen falls in a nature preserve west of Albany. It was a beautiful place and has some neat canoe and kayak only lakes. It was up in elevation, so I think the wind chill hung around 20 below all afternoon.  I'll be out to the river next Sunday morning and staying through Wed.  Hope the weather god (with a small g-ain't givin'  too much credit at this point)  is lenient and shows a little compassion.  I just might be taping a spinning reel on. I certainly am bringing the chuck and duck rig. At worst I'll do a bunch of snowshoeing. I've got 32" on the ground in my backyard as of this evening. Most I've seen in the 24 years I've lived here. Not even close to what I saw a few winters  up on a mt.  in Vt. or in the Sierra, but I'm a lot older and  wimpier. Nancy and I looked around Camden (we think its a great little town) and found some affordable stuff, but it's a hard sell even with the short drive to the SR. About the time we'd buy, the fishery WILL crash. Stay warm guys. I'll talk to Andy and Clint before the week is out.

Thanks for sharing the adventure..
It took awhile this winter but that's about what the inside of one of my water pipes looked like when I got home.. At work, They all look like that now..
Good luck out there on the water, stay safe and hope you play with a few..

Actually this coming weekend looks like a little more reasonable temps.. I may have to venture out ON the water myself, If I can still drill a hole

Great photo Charlie.  Looks like copperhead heaven come Spring.
For umpteenth time I shoveled the walks and driveway, not enough snow to fire up the thrower.
I've had it with this weather and I'm definitely ready for Spring.

Global Warming report-
All taken at about 9 am at my place.
Sunday -5
Mon -15
Tues -6

Second record breaking Lake ice reports in 2 consecutive years-
Al,  Hey Al where are ya when we need ya.

Snow in my yard bout hip deep with NO crust since there apparently has been NO weather warm enough to cause any melt.
Ya go right to the bottom when trying to walk.

Only saw a literal handful  of brave fishermen up river in 4 days- Pineville and lower seems mostly slush.
Reservoir up on Tug is bout 8 feet low and there is less snow up that way than in the Pulaski area.

Hey Andy - thanks again
The  pork looked great too- lol.

Had the day off today, but it was errand day. Little nut holding valve stem was cracked. Seemed like an easy repair for the dealer with a 1030 apt. 5 hours later they said $600 to fix it. To make a long story short I ended up getting it god willed under warranty thank goodness.  it was -14 this am and -3 now.  was a nice day overall with the sun out.

Back on the ice! Good, HT. Neat pic. Thanks for the river update, Trevor. Sounds like I'll be trying trestle and up. With the looks of all my local water, I'm amazed any of it is open. I may hike into the upper fly just to see what it looks like with this much snow and ice. It's a pretty area, might get a few nice pics. I taped a firewall today with a propane salamander going. It was easily 85. Gigantic shock to the system. Finish tomorrow, and I'm not complaining to have HEAT many more degrees than we keep  most of our house. I think  Hell freezing over is a pretty common occurrence  this winter.

Yup, and here we go again with single digit highs and negative lows!!! Trev, wish you could've tried some of porky :) good to catch up with ya. 285 cfs and the mid winter sun is the only thing keeping the river open as much as it is. Trev I thought it was just me but yes town of Richland has more than western tug!!!

Re:Weather thread 2015/02/19 08:27:17 (permalink)
Charlie -it seemed to clear out at Pineville bridge every day as the sun came up higher but the A bridge stayed chunky all day every day, VERY few guys fishing  didn't see more than a handful,
Kiddie only had one car fishing each day with 2 guys- mostly fishing up a bit from the pool. Never looked at the Church lot.
Looked like a long deep walk to the wires but a car or two each day.
Unemployment lot empty and only saw one guy fishing from the top.
Good luck- hope ya hit some.
Having spent some winter time up there over  the past several years this is the least pressure the river has had in my experience- seems a nice mid season break for pressured fish this year.
Way too cold for me to do anything but lurk.

Well last night we got a "dusting" here but with the low temps I thought it would be best to blow the driveway clear, and that is what I did...with the leaf blower!
No fishing for me until end of March and that will be out west in Ohio, hope it thaws by then.

Well looking like a late start tomorrow maybe 11 am.  I will report back if anything decides to play.  Low pressure sounds nice.  Something tells me Saturday won't be the case.  We will drive to Altmar but something tells me we will fish Trestles to Pineville (pm only).

I am so f'ing done with this. It is absolutely brutal out. About six inches of snow, the wind is ripping and it is so cold hell did indeed freeze over.......  another day of 20 below next week.

Clint., I'm with ya on the brutal weather. It's unforgiving working or even coming home from sub zero winds. I'd much rather be in my shanty ..
Stay safe folks, another tough night for my co workers.
A slight bright spot Sunday .
Hope the fish are hungry for everyone that makes it out.

I just looked and the lake is 75% frozen as opposed to 27% last year at this time. We still have several days of below 0 coming up with tomorrow and Monday probably being close to 20 below.

Anchorage has been having consistent highs in the  high 30's. Even an occasional foray into the 40's. Time to move north and join the circus on the Kenai. I'll have a t-shirt made up that says "I survived Columbus Day on the Salmon River" on the front, and of course "Snagger" on the back.
That should let those around me know I'm a veteran ripper.  I hate that ice coverage, Clint. Oxygen depletion, decrease in zooplankton, and unusual patterns in the thermocline and lake strata can't be good. Monday is supposedly a high of 5. That may be the day I stay in the hotel room and tie flies. Champlain is 100% ice  for the second year in a row. Not a common occurrence. Well, it wasn't....

It is brutal. Snow drifts that formed from yesterdays winds on already plowed areas were 4 foot in spots. I'm convinced there are 5-6 foot actual depths in areas
