This has definitely been the most snow in a while, but it has been manageable. There have been more non lake events than the past too.  Although I don't like the snow, the brutal cold has been as bad or worse. This weekend several days of well below 0 are coming.

you're right Clint. A lot of snow falls between 2 & 8 inches.we may have a day here today though where we don't get anything. Finally. I believe it's been over 10 days of snow everyday. Here comes the arctic blast and more snow in the next few days. some localities may hit that -20 or lower mark

Retire up there BUT be a snow bird Jan to the middle of March would be the best of both worlds!
In a little bit I'll be going out to remove the "coating" of snow from the driveway AGAIN!

-5 at 7 am... Did a an extensive clean up all around the house last night. All I can say is wow. Heavy stuff too. as Clint mentioned earlier a lot of our snow has been synoptic not leak effect therefore it is very thick. Going to make for some long-lasting snowpack. Town workers we're out digging the fire hydrants out this morning. Here we goWhitney arctic blast.

And I thought it as only in the city that people had lost that sense of civic duty (and personal self interest, we had a house gutted down here last week 'cause the firemen could not find the closer hydrant and had to run a hose an extra 400 feet) that caused them to go out and shovel out the hydrants as soon as they got done with the driveway.  Despite at least 6 younger men living within my distance from the hydrant on my street, I cleaned it out Saturday, and I am giving the resident's plow contractor a piece of my mind for burying it next time I see him.

Lucky, having worked on fire sprinklers, fire mains and hydrants since I was as young as 14, I do know and understand the liability and catastrophe that comes along with maintenance of such appurtenances that most folks unknowingly rely on. You should be hollaring at your local jurisdiction rather than the plow guy. Municipalities are corely responsible for marking, maintaining, keeping clear and flushing of fire hydrants. It is a crying shame that such an instance like the one you explained can happen in an urban/suburban area. Maybe its due to our governing bodies too concerned with enforcing a police state rather than true ideological safety.

What's funny is when I was driving home from work yesterday I thought it was poor governing in my locality to see all of the hydrants burried... It was quite ironic to see them being dug out this morning. Granted, some of these water mains in these parts are not even a year old. Hats off to My local dpw for attempting to stay ahead of the game for the honest public's safety!!!

Clint, I was telling my wife last night "I bet lake effect is gonna come in with this cold front"... Boy did it... I took the back way from Cicero up to rt. 54 and across to 3... Wow!!! Couldn't see a thing but it beat the heck out of crawling on 11... I'd say you got the worst of it this time. I've got about 8 inches and it appears to be winding down for me. Think spring neighbors and be happy that you won't be on the N.E coast this weekend.  Although, 3-6" for yinz area won't be a lot to cheer about!  Hang in there..................  Spring is in the air..............

This easily has to be the second worse in 15 years for snow.  2007 was by far the worse I can remember. When we got the 125 inches in 5 days. 41 next Sunday...................

Its been a long time... But it looks like town pool is in line for a complete ice closure in the next few days. Any open water left is completely ice dammed!

I've been wondering how closed up it was getting. The Hudson and its tribs, including the Battenkill have far more closed sections than open . After this weekend, I suspect it'll be even worse.

Charlie black hole has 8" of ice mostly and 4" where the current is. Although I haven't checked...Based on knowledge through the years I'd assume dsr is closed up solid to the wall pool and only sporadically open to the black. If the town pool closes Up that's a big one. In my 25 years experience I believe its happened once or twice. Before I started coming there was always a pic up in the salmon river sport shop of a year that it was completely locked... I believe early 80's

One year we walked all the way into the north sportsman only to find it completely solid ..
Jack, while I like the cold and may have been more rambunctious in my youth, I have NO desire to stand in or near moving water right now.
Even with the snow and butch of a drag, I will be sitting in my shanty fishing with the heater going sat & sun..

Hey Db , 8" on the black ? Shoot I can drive my atv out there , set up my shanty, put a few tip ups out and jig for steelhead . Now you got me thinking .. Lol

As you age you get wiser Rich, that heater in the shack sounds a lot better than wading in ice water and snow drifts, the only question is how about the flat screen TV?

Shane drilled a few holes at the black hole wanting to jig up a steel. Trouble is there was five foot of slush under

Jack, I'm still staring at that fish finder - flasher all day. I'm afraid if I put a TV in there I will just fall asleep.. I have yet to find much worthwhile to watch on the darn thing ..
Seems you picked a good year to forgo the ice though. It's been a struggle for sure to get to trout waters . At least the pan fish water has been ok..
Maybe in march things will improve on the big water THEN I'm sure you'll jump right on it ... Lol

Clint, that seems interesting but more of a joke then actually productive , on the SR anyway.
Hope you make it out ..

tuna you are right pre water regulating days it used to ice up a lot more I'm sure but would probably blow out just as quick in an instant. My time is 1990 and on... things definitely changed in the nineties. Trevor still waiting to hear back will let you know.
