Weather dude was forecasting a low of 3 degrees for my little piece of Penn's Woods overnight.  Checking the thermometer just before daybreak, I see another Brass Monkey has become a member of the 'Exalted Capons' as the mercury was hovering at minus 9 degrees F.

Beautiful blue sky and the sun is shining this morning with a forecast of 28 degrees as a high for today.

Good luck HT, have fun in the sun today, send pictures.

Now if you will excuse me I must exit to the outside and scream obscenities...... Doc says it's good to vent!

No winter, no cold water, not trout.  No, I'll pay my dues to have the opportunity to angle for spotted fishies when the sun comes back North!

My gosh !! What a day to spend in the outdoors.
Wind was tough but sun and warmth was welcomed.
Sorry tank. I'm not flyfishing right now so my thoughts are elsewhere.
Good luck .

Re:Weather thread 2016/02/21 09:45:16 (permalink)
Geez was that a super day yesterday or what?  My unofficial outside air temperature taken on my official TWC Weather Station was pushing 66 degrees F,  in the shade!  Windy too, with gust hammering the 25 MPH range for a good part of the day.

I sure took advantage of the weather by pulling the Fish Hawk from her birth and attaching some new boater moating toys along her gunnels.  Installed four NIB flush mount heavy duty rod holders so I can do some HD trolling.

Now, for those of you having read my angling auto-biographies; yinz will agree that it matters not what I do, it most likely will not improve my catching.  BUT...........,  I'll sure looooooook goood on the water!

Not only did I get to play in my boater moat, I also got a good start on my tan and I gave my Amish neighbors something to talk about after church today.  Pretty sure they found it strange for the dude in the 'log cabin' to be sitting in his boater moat, in the middle of his driveway.   Not such a bad thing though, keeps em from askin to borrow my telephone.

Just a beautiful Bluebird day with clear skies, warm sun and the thought of fishing, dancing, in my head.  Maybe even catchin a few, this year too.

Yes that was a great day to be out, took my best friend for a walk in the park along the Little Lehigh and talked to a couple fly fishers that had a "little" luck, the only negative was the muddy conditions along the way but overall that was a MINOR concern.Today it's 50 and I'll be going out again with my friend but to some high dry ground.

Good morning to all my 'Brotherhood of Cabin Fever' associates and, our 'Claustrophobic Reaction' affiliates.  Hopefully yinz was able to get out and blow a little dust and cob webs off and, enjoy the past two days.

Frost covering much of the area as the sun breaks over the tree tops with the present temperature hovering at 22.5 degrees F.  A bit  nipply compared to the past two mornings as that is 20+/- degrees difference here in my little piece of The Pennsylvania Wilds.

Certainly hope yinz was able to enjoy that gorgeous moon as it broke the horizon on the eve of the "Snow Moon".  Not to fret, if ya missed it last night, tonight will be the night and you might get to see it as it lights up the night sky once again.

I am a bit excited to tell yinz, I saw Robins yesterday in a field across the way and not just one or two but, a whole herd of 'em.  I mean there was more Robins in that field then I could count so, I know there was more than ten.  How exciting is that.........  spring is on it's way!!

Robins are too bright. They often get caught back before the snow is done.

Definitely right on about the RW Blackbirds, Robins were around  the morning after the 20" snow we got last week, but the Redwings will not show until the fat lady sings!

Rain, rain .. Well it is welcomed in the snow base short fall but makes mud .
Yes it's mud season below the blue line ( Adirondacks ).
Need a boat down here in mid NY to access and water impoundment.
Looks like a good sign for striper migration- all could change as for fishing them with the Great Muddy Hudson .

Dipping into the single digits Friday night will lock the northern shore back up if they got beat today. Last gas for lakers this weekend:( but now ready to play in the water ,, not mud

We just had a cloud burst and thunder roll through.  Intermittent heavy rain throughout the day.  I'm sure the local streams are busting at the seams.  One day closer to winter's end.

Had Killdeer on the driveway yesterday, but no Red Winged Blackbirds yet. The skunks are out and about, but no oppossums. Spring is close, but not here quite yet.

Good to see that they got him out, very lucky man.   The rain up here yesterday has ended the hardwater season at least until we get another arctic blast,  but all the LO tribs will come alive with this water (if there are anymore fish to come!).

I have no reports of our local ice as of yet, but sprinkled all day and at wound 500 it turned to snow. If the ice is not nice I may have a river report on Sunday.   on a side note two houses up got raided by the troopers, sheriffs and border patrol this am. They went in fully suited up and guns drawn.  Someone is in big trouble.

Still raining , steady and at times a gusher all night and day here below the blue line . Everything local is done and flooding for walking on top this season.
The temperature hasn't dropped yet up north but it will and all precipitation has .
That's good news to me . While the ice seaso has been shortened compared to the last 2 , the fishing has been better, IMO.
Hope the Great Lakes is as well
Next report from me will hopefully be tight with a touge, maybe another beautiful salmon or a 40" pike :)
Stay dry and safe folks , may your fish dreams come true

Hey Clint- in regard to a river report- stopped upriver at Kiddie a couple of times in the past couple of days and spoke to a few fly guys-
report- lousy ---at best.
One guy said he spoke to a guy who said he had landed one but had seen no action in a few hours at Church and Kiddie..
He reported that the guys under the Hemlocks and on the wall were having few if any hookups.
He was a guy I have seen there multiple times and watched hooking up in the past.
Watched Kiddie a while on two different days - not a hookup or even a surfacing seen.
Am sure there is action here and there but not like past seasons IMHO.

River looked up a bit but clear Mon and Tues-Wed came way up in the rain.
A car or two in most lots upriver Mon and Tues.
Kiddie Lots had the most.
Temps were in the high 30s and lower 40s all three days. Tues it rained most of the night then hard on Wed.
Would be real leery of any ice around the River area with those temps and all that rain.
