We drove an hour and a half to fish Elk on Saturday.  Arrived at the access parking lot, there was a vehicle in every parking space and elbow to elbow fishing conditions.  I just kept on driving!  We checked out a few other spots and decided that although we only had our steelhead fishing outfits, we were going to our favorite trout stream and try our luck there.  An hour later we were hooking up with some fiesty bows and had a great time.  Like you guys, we won't be heading back until we get the much needed rain!

Do these guys actually enjoy fishing like that?? Good batch of true sportsman there..All they need now is some ahole with a 3/4 oz little cleo he could long cast and catch a couple dozen lines. Maybe I'll get out my spoon box.
Sorry fellas this just isn't my idea of good fishing..Must be city folk. As a country bumpkin I require just a little more personal space than that.

Thank you Genieman!!! (nice to see you back btw)

I'd be willing to bet half of these guys were the same people who were B(#ing and moaning about there being no fish last year with all the high water.  I've said this once, and I'll say it again... If it were up to some of the people on this disscusion board, some of you would NEVER get out on the stream.  I'm sorry but that perfect water level, and that perfect green color only happens on the PA tribs a few days a season on a normal year.  So while you guys all sit on the computer and b17ch about the conditions, I'll be fishing.

BTW for those of you that are saying they should shut the streams down until we get rain...  You guys are acting like these are wild steelhead out west or something.  Reality check, even if everyone of these fish died, guess what... theres still going to be tons more next fall!  Besides the water temperatures are FAR from lethal levels, you can thank the 40 degree nights for that.

The rain will come, quit crying.

Yep and now this year they whine and cry that the creeks are too low, they should shut down this artfificial fishery til we get good flow, too many people(what do u expect when the creeks have been low) or my favorite some guys were lining or snagging. Heres a crazy idea call the fishcommission if u see someone lining or snagging. WWWWWHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAA!

fisherman i agree with you on everything accept the fact about the green tint conditions i assume you were taking a shot at me LOL. however i have been around a little longer than you and it does happen more than you state;anyway for what it is worth i have been fishing at elk recently under same conditions that you fished and did well also.your right it is what it is.all i mean by the green tint is that just happens to be my favorite conditions i still fish regardless 3 hr drive limited days family etc,i will fish whatever they may be,i go when i can and adapt when i get there, anyway good luck and we will definatley see you when the SNOW FLIES

fishrmn;
Just because they are stocked and can be replaced does not mean we have the right to disregard them.  They are living creatures, not to  mention an investment made by all who purchased a license,  and should be treated with some level of humaness(I'm sure I am going to hear it for this one).  Anyway we should do our best to preserve the fishery for this year and next, even if that means refraining from fishing until the rains come, be it in November, December or whenever.
So I would be for closing the fishery until conditions change.

They are living creatures...
and should be treated with some level of humaness"

"(I'm sure I am going to hear it for this one)."

No offense, Bro, but curious how "humane" it is to stock hundreds of thousands of large fish in small, shallow shale bottom creeks with no where to hide?

I'm also curious how "humane' it is to impale a "living creature" with sharp steel, then yank it around by the mouth to the point of exhaustion, as that "living creature" fights in a life and death struggle with a  predator elite (man)?
THEN we revive it as best we can like "good sportsman" , send it back on it's way so we can torrment that fish over and over and over again

But I hear you, Bro.
Truth is, I see those poor fish trapped  in the stop sign hole with trout gawds surrounding them from every angle, every hour of the day, just a  hammering away.
Makes me think the best thing that could happen to those poor creatures is to end up on some yokel's rope and end their misery.....

.......................................................................................................

Now sump'up for the others....
I know some of ya'll ("youinz" for my Mup'ear friends) may not think it "sporting" to fish over dozens or even hundreds of fish in low gin clear water, but i got news for you, it ain't all that easy most of time, and requires some skill and more than a few tricks in your bag to get a spooky tight lipped, heavy pressured fish to bite your offering.

The guys that are able to get it done, enjoy fishing in any condition water and don't whine about it.

Hey Fishrmn Tim, thanks for the welcome back.
I see you're getting your share and got it figured it out.
But i still see you're wearing the fugly hat

You should of got two of them.
if your not sure  why i say get two, please ask

No offense taken, in my opinion, even though the fish are stocked as a resource for our entertainment, we still have to respect the fact that it is a living creature.   Where then do we draw the anthropomorphic line??
I often ask my self that question.
I do agree with you though and just think we can do better to conserve our resources.
And from a sportsman stand point, I think we have to start asking ourselves, at what point does fishing become more of a routine rather than a challenge and true outdoor experience?  Based on some of the pictures on this thread I think that point is now.

I'm down with that, lets wait until the fish spread out a little and we'll pick a day.  If we get any decent rain I might fish sunday.
