Nope...this guys was recomended by the boat dealer as well....i guess its nice when u sell a boat to get your buddies a couple hundred bucks as well....

They said it was because he purchased the boat without looking at it and they needed a professional survey of the boat or he would have to come up and look at it and sign off that it was what he thought it was....

Either way i think it would have been close to a $350 fuel bill to go sign off on it....

And really even if you buy a boat and it is looked over by an "expert" and rot is later discovered, can you come back at them for missing that in the inspection?  I highly doubt it...all they do is walk around and tap test the hull they easily could miss something..

The contract probably has a clause that includes that this is just an opinion and the wording in the report will say:
"Did not find any______, " "No apparent________" "No Visible_______"

I had an automotive insurance appraisers licence.

Never write anything down as definate-only apparent.

Just like politicians-
leave room to weasel out of anything you did, wrote or said!

For $350 I should consider doing it.
I know the lingo!

Oops. Word of caution: Never take the word of the dealer.

If your looking for a good marine surveyor, call Ed Gibson. He's in the Pittsburgh area. His survey report helped me big time when I had problem with a brand new boat and the manufactorer was giving me a run around about covering it under the warranty. Believe it or not, it is not a bad idea to have brand new boats surveyed. Just cause it's new, doesn't mean it's problem free. And the problems can be significant even on a brand new boat. And just cause there's a warranty doesn't mean the manufactorer's going to stand behind it. I'm speaking from 1st hand knowledge.

I am looking at buying a boat to replace the one I have. I was wanting some opinions from you guys. I was looking for something in the 21-25 foot range preferably with a hard top. Should I buy alum. or fiberglass? What size motor? I don't what something that is under powered. Also what brands, ie Bayliner, Sportcraft, Baha, Starcraft, etc. I will be mostly fishing Erie and maybe Ontario.

One with out holes !!!!!!!!   No seriously, I've fished in everything from an float tubet to  35 foot boats, its all in what you want, what you like, thats all that matters. Just get one big enough for the water you want
to fish. Good Luck  !
