This is an epidemic. Talk to any HS athlete’s parent that doesn’t happen to be a coach and 99% would agree. Parents should be banned from coaching school teams.
First of all, congrats to your daughter on her D1 opportunity! That's awesome!
I live in a 4A school district with an OK to good overall athletics program.

If parents didn't coach school sports at smaller schools that don't have awesome athletics programs and facilities that attract highly qualified and skilled coaches, a lot of kids would miss out on a lot of opportunities and there would be no coaches, or horrendously under-qualified coaches.
When my oldest son was in 7th grade, there was no 7th grade hoops coach 3 weeks before the season started, so I stepped up. Just finished my 9th season and coached my youngest two years ago too. Never heard complaints that I denied other kids opportunities to get my sons more playing time. Other than the occasional very disgruntled parents that are seemingly disgruntled about everything, I don't hear complaints about the varsity coaches who are parents either denying kids of opportunities.
Even if I was qualified to coach a varsity sport - I'm not - there's no way I'd want to because of how crazy parents can be. If a parent has some skin in the game, wants to put up with all the other crazy parents, and try to build a program while their kid is in the program and/or help their kid and their teammates make some great high school memories, I'm all for it, even if their kid gets a little special treatment once in awhile.
I've seen a lot of parents coach varsity sports in our district in my 23 years here. I've never seen another kid lose out on opportunities at the high school or collegiate level because a parent coach decided to cut off their nose to spite their face.
Now, if you wanna talk about how horrendous daddy ball is in travel/pay to play sports below the high school level, I can talk about that for hours!
