and truth is, Musk is prob'ly right
If you want America to be  world class leader in tech, you need world class people.
His pro-sports team analogy of signing  the best the "world" has to offer, is valid imHo.
Import the "brightest and best" super geeks, be they Asian, Indian, or European

Why the flip-flop? A few weeks ago you stated you were ok with tariffs increasing inflation if the result was more U.S. jobs. You said something like, "I'm willing to pay higher prices in return for jobs for my kids and grandkids."

Now you are ok with H-1B visas taking U.S. jobs?

Musk said in an interview in early November that his entrance into politics was fueled by the vow he made to himself to do whatever he could to destroy what he calls the woke mind virus that he says destroyed his son.

Yea he couldn’t deal with his kid being trans. Also, by her account, he is a pretty shiitty dad.

Beyond that tho, I’m sure musk is drawn to the Republican Party for the same primary reasons that all the other billionaires and tech bros are - low taxes, deregulation of whatever industry they are making their money in, basically the removal of any barriers to hoarding as much wealth as possible.

This is a made up silly argument--

It’s definitely not. Within the immigration debate this is a big topic. It really is a complete 180 from where Trump was on H1B visas during his first term. And whether you want to acknowledge it or not, there is a hardline nationalist portion of Trump supporters that is opposed to any and all immigration, period. When they say things like “come here legally” that means placing as many legal immigration barriers as possible, so that any immigration to the US is virtually impossible.

I guarantee that people like Stephen Miller are not happy about this, and he is going to be the one actually writing policy details not musk.

no flip flop, Jer
You just assume wrongly  I'm anti immigration because I want more manufacturing in our country?
More manufacturing here makes us stronger as a nation and less vulnerable to supply chain disruptions.

tariffs have nothing to do with the lack of Brainiacs to staff tech wiz  positions. (or roof houses)

Did not assume wrong.  Per your words, you are against exporting U.S. jobs overseas, but have no problem importing overseas workers to take U.S. jobs here.

I had argued overseas labor makes our U.S. companies more sustainable and you accused me of favoring corporate greed over American workers.  Now you are all for using foreign labor (H-1B) to benefit the evil-capitalists.

how  did you stretch my disdain for EXPORTING U.S. jobs over seas for having no problem importing labor to "take" American workers jobs?
4.2% unemployment rate is pretty much full capacity employment ('cause 4% of the genpop you can't make work)
There are "people shortages" in many sectors.
and it will only get worse, as Americans are having less kids
Immigration is necessary and fact of life

outsourcing manufacturing to overseas  labor does favor Big Corp greed at the expense of US jobs.
the top 10% are the ones that benefit the mo$t by that.
The rest get the crumbs from the table for your 401k

as far as "all for"  as you choose to characterize it, I'm good with immigration of highly skilled, highly educated folks.
I'm  good with entry laborer types too.
there needs to be controls based on needs, mind you

What I'm opposed to, are bringing in masses of unskilled peasants that burden fed, state and local social system budgets beyond what those masses can contribute back

I hope that helps you understand how your logic errs
and clears up my position that you mischaracterize to fit your assumptions

You're just talking in circles now.  If we are at full capacity employment, who is going to work the returning manufacturing jobs you say will happen with tariffs?

I still eagerly await Trumps tax reforms promised often on the campaign trail.
Not that they will affect me so much as a retiree but for my kids and grandkids future incomes and expendable cash.
Taxes on tips--OT and other income were mentioned even gross tax on police and fire wages.
We will see.
No tax on SS would have some effect on the wife and I but not a real game changer like some of those for younger people.

Recent bi partisan SS change for public employees could hit at home as I took more than a 50% cut of the base amount as a PO.
Jurys still out on that as predictions dont always come up to reality in fed rules and laws and Biden has yet to sign it so the numbers wont be in for many months IMHO

Pretty sure those are just false promises to get votes. Nothing new in politics. For example... "Read my lips, no new taxes" It works for them even though they know it is not a reality.

People that make less than $25,000 on S.S. don't pay taxes on it anyways if that is all they report. Many people that voted thinking it was so great don't realize it wouldn't effect them, " I won with the poorly educated, I love the poorly educated"

The SSFA will help out many and their spouses...
