Was on a BOE for a while in Ct--Generally Fed funding averaged around 5 to 8 percent of gross depending on the year, and considering local and State input.
Fed funding always came with strings attached as  its use was concerned, including new initiatives the feds wanted and some maintenance of previous ones.
We regularly discussed how we could get rid of their mandates and if we could absorb the loss of their funding, that 5 to eight percent came to a real big number and always won the day for them as it would have been a big a pass along to the local taxpayers.
It would have also been a herculean task trying to also get rid of their mandates to alleviate that pass down on local taxes. If we could have even legally done it.
Glad to see the end of their influence coming. It was always a constant struggle managing some of their mandates we didnt feel really fit well to our system

It's not the federal government's responsibility to financially support our local schools. It shouldn't be the State's responsibility either.
Funding of schools should lie completely on the local taxpayers.

Let’s go even further.

I don’t have any kids. Why should my taxes pay for any schools at all? That’s not my financial responsibility.

Why don’t we just make the people that have kids pay for the education of their children out of their own pockets? Why use any public funds at all?

Can any of the conservative minded folks tell me why this is a bad idea?

You know they are down across the country, right? Who would have thought removing kids from a classroom would have test scores down? Especially the youngest kids and those that have parents that weren’t able to be at home helping them actually learn and not just get by. I’d think even PSU branch campus education would require that sort of comprehension skills?

Fed closing education is just shifting taxes. The states that give a chit about equal access to education will raise theirs to capture, the others will just push to local. Most taxes are local regardless. Wealthy areas are already spending 2-3 times the amount of not more as poor areas. Guess who has better test scores, safer schools, nicer facilities, more to offer students? If you give a chit about your kids’ education, you buck up and pay the higher taxes. If you don’t or you don’t have kids, you move to areas with lower taxes. If you sort of give a chit, there are districts for that too… Pretty simple.

Yeah, we should definitely slowly erode the biggest PUBLIC resource in most communities.  That will be good.  Anyone that needs a field or a gym or a f-ing stage or a public building can just go pick themselves up by their bootstraps and build their own.

I’m gonna make a guess here and say that I bet test scores aren’t down everywhere, in all districts, equally.

I’m also gonna go out on a limb and say it’s the poorest school districts with the poorest kids from the poorest families with the lowest test scores that are bringing down the averages nationwide.

And anybody that wants to fact check the idea that poor outcomes in education correlate closely with poverty, please do.

Also if anybody wants to post some hard data about what “test scores don’t improve” actually means, feel free to do that too.

With all of the immigrants being deported, the Amish are going to be pretty busy.
