I heard that one candidate talk about that, I believe Yang? I haven’t heard Trump or Musk talk that. Not sure I’d believe it either, especially with how anti Socialist most people are and the stigma associated with any sort of entitlement. I’d bet money on people starving in the streets over a middle class level universal income. That is completely against Capitalism.

Elon Musk Says Universal Income Is Inevitable: Why He Thinks That’s a Bad Thing | Nasdaq
In Musk’s eyes, advances in AI will change the world to the point that eventually, hardly anyone will even have a job. This will require governments to pay out a universal basic income, as most people won’t even be drawing a paycheck.
In 2024, Musk took his views a step further, telling the VivaTech conference in Paris that not just a basic income but a high universal income will be the future of the world. As Musk put it, “In a benign scenario … probably none of us will have a job. … But in that benign scenario, there will be universal high income — not universal basic income, universal high income. There will be no shortage of goods or services.

Let’s see it put in action. Perfect opportunity to get it started instead of tax cuts, don’t you think? With by far the most cuts going to those taking advantage of AI to cut jobs. Like said, my money is on people starving in the streets before this happens. Talk is cheap.

I’m sure SS will either be gone or raised to 80, then as I am ready to collect, they’ll enact this just rub salt in the wound!

To be clear, in this quote, Elon musk is not advocating the idea of a universal basic income nor has he ever suggested it as any kind of policy goal in the short term.

In this quote he is simply saying he believes it will happen. Some day. In the future. It’s the same as if I said “someday the sun will turn into a supernova and burn the earth to a crisp”. I’m not saying I’m in favor of the idea, I’m just saying it will happen.

The current agenda he is pushing with Trump has absolutely nothing to with UBI, and suggesting otherwise is a fundamental misread of what him and his whole tech bro culture is about. He’s a “fukk everybody else I got mine” libertarian through and through.

I didn’t have much of an opinion of him.

But before he devolved into an internet troll, began propping up far right authoritarianism in the US, and supporting “almost but not quite” nazis in Germany, I would say I had a more favorable opinion of him, of course.

I’m not sure why this is a controversial take. Before covid his public persona was not overtly political.
