Trump as a president candidate:
"The H-1B program is neither high-skilled nor immigration: these are temporary foreign workers, imported from abroad, for the explicit purpose of substituting for American workers at lower pay. I remain totally committed to eliminating rampant, widespread H-1B abuse and ending outrageous practices such as those that occurred at Disney in Florida when Americans were forced to train their foreign replacements. I will end forever the use of the H-1B as a cheap labor program, and institute an absolute requirement to hire American workers first for every visa and immigration program. No exceptions."

Trump as president-elect:
"I’ve always liked the visas, I have always been in favor of the visas. That’s why we have them...  I have many H-1B visas on my properties. I’ve been a believer in H-1B. I have used it many times. It’s a great program."

Not surprising, is it? This is what happens when you don’t actually believe in anything and everything you do is transactional.

Most Trump voters probably won’t care but there is definitely a subset of those hard right nationalist types that loved Trump because he was extremely anti immigrant. Some of those folks will definitely not like this one bit.

It definitely points to how Musk’s “tech bro” libertarian streak could cause some tension within the Trump coalition. And now these people have to actually govern, which is a helluva lot harder than being the opposite party.

This is a made up silly argument--
There have always been legal immigrants and temp workers allowed--Clearly that isnt changing..Its the illegal masses at the border that going to stop- not the normal legal processes that have been there for years.
The left trying to somehow combine the two in an effort to somehow make Trump wrong is just a TDS oriented BS argument.
Nothing but annoying clickbait.

it's just today's polyticz as usual

it's the dems turn to play "gotcha, see I told you he's a turd"
The Reps had their turn for 4 years of "Biden crime family" and FJB for every perceived ill in the world

on the H-1, Trump has to own his past rhetoric..(his mouth is most of what makes him a dikbrain)

and truth is, Musk is prob'ly right
If you want America to be  world class leader in tech, you need world class people.
His pro-sports team analogy of signing  the best the "world" has to offer, is valid imHo.
Import the "brightest and best" super geeks, be they Asian, Indian, or European

Yes he's right, there absolutely has to be a legal way for people to come here and work for high end, low end, middle end jobs of all sorts that Americans can't staff, don't want, can't do...whatever...

his tirade on X about "people f-ing themselves in the face" tho is just a prime example of what our leaders and role models in gov have become...zero respect, zero character...don't come whining about "kids these days" when that is who we prop up.  Wonder what Elon is in it for?  Why would the wealthiest man in the world donate his time for these endeavors?  Who's to say...

Why not have a contract for any foreign students taking a spot from an American student at any high level institution, like MIT, Stanford, Harvard, etc. to be required to work in the US for four years? Sort of like the military academies do for their athletes.

Having immigrant workers visas to work on golf properties and billionaire resorts is the same thing…. 😃😃😃

I donno, El Dee-Dee
But I'll not be influenced by what bitter cynics have to say

what drives any self made billionaire,  be it  Gates, Bezos, Musk, Zuck, Buffet etc  to go to work everyday and not kick back and work on their tan?

When you're Musk and have Billions of dollars, what else is left? I'm thinking the challenge.

Musk said in an interview in early November that his entrance into politics was fueled by the vow he made to himself to do whatever he could to destroy what he calls the woke mind virus that he says destroyed his son.

Probably also a desire to further enrich himself and have more influence, but that’s the only specific reason I’ve ever heard him give.
