Once the water cools a bit, the shallows should start to show more fish. It was horribly slow last fall for me. This spring was slow too, so I’m not too encouraged about this fall’s bite. Fishing pressure possibly doubled the past two years on the lake. Hopefully that gets back to normal, but might need a few years to rebound. Once rifle season starts, be cautious of what part of the lake you are fishing.

Anybody been hitting Arthur recently?

My buddy and I were talking about making one more trip to Arthur this season.  We launch at the 528 ramp and then head to Nealey's point, there are some nice crappy and bass in that area.

This weekends report:
Fished below dam 4 on Saturday, caught a few walleye in front of the dam. Then I took the boat down to the Springdale Generation Station and caught a few smallmouth. I spent the afternoon cleaning the haul, and vacuuming the the inside.

I think I'm going to be hitting the woods for the next few weekends. I'm trying to tag out before Thanksgiving, so I can spend opening day of rifle chasing the rainbows in Erie.

Maybe I should just start taking the boat to lock 3 or lock 4. Those spots are even closer than Arthur. I’ve only fished lock 3 from shore a couple times. Never been to lock 4. I’ve actually wanted to take the boat up to Templeton and motor up near Rimer. I’ve seen some real nice looking water while biking up there, but that’s a little bit too much of a haul. I’ve tried to find a public launch at Rimer but it doesn’t look like there are any.

I used to fish nealeys point from shore as a kid, but I’ve only tried taking the boat there a couple times. That area gets a lot of boat traffic which drives me nuts. All of the best spots on Arthur seem to be in heavy boat traffic areas, or they get blasted by alot of wind. So it’s like I should either suck it up and deal with wind and boats if I want to catch fish on Arthur, or just go somewhere else.

I live close to lock 3 and 4, Arthur is about a 40 minute drive.  If you take the boat to lock 3 be carful with that launch, its pretty steep. I unhook the wench right before my tires hit the water. The Tarentum launch is nice, bring a long doc line if you're launching alone.

Arthur is nice for getting the cob webs out of the boat early season, and catching a few crappie. I don't care for dealing with the summer crowds.

I ended up fishing on Saturday instead of hunting same spot (dam 4).  The morning fog was heavy, thank god I marked all the channel markers on my fish finder. Ended up catching 5 walleye and two bass.

not to shabby, is the Freeport or Kelly? Sold my boat a few years back, fish shore at Kelly a lot. Decent spot.

Freeport is Lock 5; Kelly's Station is on pool #5. There is no public launch. I used to launch at the South Buffalo Twp. emergency launch at the end of the road at Clinton, but it's been privatized and is now posted. It was primitive with parking for maybe two trailer rigs but it worked. Pool 5 is some really decent fishing. We need a public launch somewhere on there, but I don't think the PFBC is interested.

The late summer/Fall Crappie bite has been outstanding from shore here in SWPA.

My kid and his catfish pals fish pool 5, he mentioned that they found someone with a private launch that is letting guys launch for like $30 a month or $5 for one time launches.
He didn't say where at...I guess it is some kind of "in the group" thing...

That picture was taken about 200 yards past the Tarentum bridge.
