Fished Arthur for 2.5 hours during the on and off showers today.
The Perch bite was still okay and kept 27 with less than 10 throwbacks. Only a handful of Gills, one Bass and a Crappie in the mix.

Last week kept a bucket of Perch, a few Crappie and Gills. Most all fish came from casting a weighted float, jig & Shiner casted as far as I could while wading. Every single Perch (50) kept from today and the outing last week were full of eggs, not one male in the bunch.

Would be nice to get out a few more times before Christmas.

They put up a nice fight using a featherweight spinning rod. That lake puts out very healthy fish year after year. Probably more so with less and less good ice each year?

Good work Chris. I was out over the weekend. Fishing the main lake basin. Three wipers, two at 26” and one at 23”. A buddy of mine got an 18” eye. Still trying to figure the eyes out. I think I am getting close, but who knows. Slab crappies were out. A few up to 14”, none smaller than 11”. Wish that was typical. Most times weeding through 8” to eventually get an 11”. A mess of perch would be nice, but trying to work on my deeper structure game.

The local fake news is predicting a warmer than average winter, so assuming the ice season will be pretty crappy again. The amount of gizzard shad near the dam is unreal. Need a good hard freeze to thin out that herd.

Same fake news is saying 40mph winds. Sounds like a good boating day…

Tim, Glad you had a good day fishing with your buddy. In the 80's -- 90's fished the lake mainly from boat. About 3/4 across the lake from the marina was about my 3rd or 4th best spot for Eyes and Byrds. You ever try worm harnesses with very tiny blades and beads?  Found a couple shoe boxes full of both yesterday looking for wool socks. Did well on certain cranks as well. Creek Chubs were hard to beat at times.

Jim's had a photo (mid 80's) in his bait shop he took of me (limit of Eyes 27.5 -- 31") when I stopped in to get some in-line buzz baits for super thick Lilly Pads, couldn't find anywhere else. Great for those extremely hot days after LM. Lots of work though.

Was thinking it would be nice if Timmy would take me out on one of his boats. He knows the lake 10 times better than I. Like wading better and need the exercise even more these days. He is so busy with his tackle business, already over a 1/2 million in sales working it alone for the year. He did buy a boat rental storage place this summer so just maybe he will remove some boats and box trailers from my yards.

Saw some pure black catapultiers this week so who knows?

If you had a boat yesterday it would have been easy Pickens for Byrds. The Birds were hovering over them the whole time I was there. Seem to be in that area every fall.

I have been mostly jigging for the eyes now. Doing some internet article and video techniques. I did get some pulling harnesses in the spring. Right now, I’m focusing more on some deeper water. Setting trolling stuff that deep always ends up hanging up when I hit a hump, stump or whatever. I might give it a try next time out. I’ve got to get a bit more used to some of the spots that I have been fishing now. My GPS graph is somewhat accurate. I think that I am staying on a certain depth, then something comes out of nowhere and all of a sudden 10’ difference and GPS is saying it should still be deeper. Once I fish it a few times I can adjust. Fishing a lot of new spots that I have driven over many times but never really thought to fish. Who knows though. Seems like many of these videos and articles are slamming for lakes in MN and WI, but useless here. But I am marking fish, getting bites and landed one doing it. While we spent a good bit of time wiper and crappie fishing other spots. Just need more time fishing and less time working!!

Last minute trip to the lake yesterday. Thought that I had a good plan in place. Some spots marked out that seemed to match “late fall walleye”. They didn’t. Spent 2-3 hours in what was supposed to be 7mph winds with gusts to 15…. I moved around a bit. Tried switching to crappie. ONE crappie, so small that I couldn’t tell it was on. One catfish too. Skim ice on my local pond. Not sure how much longer until skim ice on bigger water. This weekend highs in upper 20s. I hope not my last trip of the year.

Monday was good. Nice night for catching crawlers, 51* and rain at 12:57 am Tuesday up here in Brady Twp. now. Just don't feel like getting wet at the moment.

Yeah, nice cold stretch on the way.
