Montourn Run Info

Guys, I'm not asking for your favorite honeyholes here, I just need some general info on where a good place to start fishing ,comming off of rt 60S. I've wanted to try this creek for a while, but I'm not sure where to go. I always see the Montour Run exit while going towards Robinson on my way to Gander MT, do they stock thru that section ? Any info would be appreciated, and if needed I can give you info on most of the Beaver County streams in return.

Thanks,
JEB

Just park along the stream and wet a line anywhere once u get off the exit.  They stock sporadically through there, but the fish will spread out.  There is good access and parking at a bunch of spots behind robinson town center.

I fished there for the first time last year...only caught a couple....but it was in the middle of the week in the first week after the opener...because I was working right there and always wanted to fish it...first day (if you go then) you should do pretty good...

fisher is right - they dump 'em in there all along monour run rd. - but just like anywhere else - walk & find a hole/drift that you like...

WORD OF WARNING - be careful...ever since "the big flood" there is all kinds of jagged metal (junk) and LOTS of rebar sticking up everywhere...so dont wear your best waders and make sure you can see bottom - because you never know whats in the deeper holes...

You are basically in my backyard. I havent fished montour since 06 but if you are going to I might suggest, starting out at the "Brothers Grimm Bar" area and walking your way down towards the forest grove sportsmen club and fishing that stretch. It is about 3 miles and its stocked a little heavier than other areas on Montour.

Also the week after first day of trout the Forest Grove Sportsmens Club usually has a tournament and stocks the stream with trophy fish. A couple years ago I think they put in somewhere around 1000 fish along the stretch I was speaking of above. Some of them are quite large. I remember some years ago trying for many days to catch a Pally that was somewhere aboe 20"

You can walk the Montour Trail down the whole stream pretty much with no problem going down from the Brothers Grimm.

PM me if you want directions or any other info

That Forest Grove Stretch is good, but don't forget to try above it. Montour Creek can be a surprisingly interesting place to walk once you take your mind off the traffic!

    JEB,

Get of at Mountour Run exit.  Go straight at the light.  Get in the right hand lane and keep going straight until you see The Brothers Grimm bar on your left.  Park at the dead end in front of the bar.  Walk downstream to the first bridge, there are a ton of holes just upstream from there.

Get there early and you should have a nice spot.  Good luck.

As someone else mentioned, the Fish Commission stocks it the first week again along with the sportsman club.  The end of the first week is a good time to go as well.

Guys and Girls, Be careful as the weather starts to warm the riprap and other rocks around the stream. The has been a few snake bites.  I have also hooked into a trout and has been stolen by a snake.
