They aren’t practicing, no scrimmages, nothing going on. Why would there be articles from local sources stirring the pot? I could see if it is some national guy with a Ravens/Browns/Bungles bias trying to start stuff. Sure, the contract is very team friendly and could cut him and be nothing. That was known when they signed him. All this is doing is sewing division in their locker room. For absolutely no reason. Whoever the local writer is, should be called out by the Steelers and left off any press invitations. Sure, write away about a controversy if playing like Mitch or Kenny. That is a real story. But he seems to be stuck in the QB controversy writer mindset and not doing that team he covers any favors. For what? So he can say he called it out if for some reason it happens???

If you want to read how the NFL will be totally destroyed, then read about the newly proposed kickoff rules that will come before the 32 owners at their meeting. CBS sports had the whole thing which came across my telephone this AM, but I don't have a link. I guess ya just go into CBS Sports and you'll find it. After reading the suspect rule changes, I'd be surprised if even the officials could remember all of them and keep track, let alone the teams and players. GAWD!! Special teams will have a whole new meaning. They need 24 owners to pass it, but surely more than that will have their heads screwed on straight and vote it down. (I hope). Opinions???

Whenever you want to know what the Democrats are up to, watch what they accuse the other side of doing.

Sounds like Mad Magazine's "43 Man Squamish,"  which was played on a round field and nobody ever won because nobody understood the rules.

They are also banning the swivel hip-drop tackle.  I'm all for safety, but how do they even tackle now without a penalty?

Football is a high collision sport. You can't really legislate the violence out of the game.

Exactly. The players know that and are rewarded handsomely for putting their bodies through the abuse. I am all for legislating the intentional head hunting and other things that can be penalized for going beyond. They are making it hard to watch though. Almost having a contest with the NCAA on who can ruin football sooner?

So owners made the kickoff rule changes official. I didn't know they have the same rule in the XFL, which makes it even stupider.

Sounds like the Stillers got their new Troy. I was sort of shocked. It sounded like they were going with Graham Burton or possibly grab one of those top CBs that dropped. Or even trade and get one of those guys 5-10 picks later and get another pick in the process.

Upgrading at OT is always a good thing and they did get a former first round CB via Diontae’s trade. So, I think CB is more of a depth/future pick, so wasn’t too shocked they didn’t go there. And history of top CB picks not panning out (hopefully JPJ breaks that trend). I know nothing about this Futaunu dude, but was like OT 5 taken. Does that mean deep draft for OT and he was one of the remaining top guys or they reached? They most likely can get one of the two remaining centers in the 2nd round. They claim to have a center on roster, but weren’t good enough to start at center last year? Does that mean Dan Moore? If they can shore up the center position, the OL can turn from one of the worst (start of this past season) to one of the better lines.

Not the same magic that the Khan artist pulled last year so far. At least with the bang factor. Troy can end up being the next Stiller O line all pro. I guess the Jones pick last year really wasn’t the bang factor too. More came from pick 2 and further on. A ton of luck that those guys were there came with that too.

Two A+ rated drafts in a row. Both lacked splash position picks. If they did this at the end of Ben’s career, he is likely just retiring now. Probably a playoff game win or two. They appear to be in a position to either get a bit lucky that Wilson has some left, see if Fields is at least an athletic game manager or go all out in next years draft.

Stillers preseason starts tonight. I’ll watch for the first quarter at least. If it remains interesting, I’ll keep watching.

Depends how much of the Olympics I am able to watch during the day today. Some incredible races the past few days. Men’s 1500m was probably my favorite, but Quincy Hall in the 400m was pretty dang good. Women’s 400hl was defining, how a real champion should present themselves. That chick is all business. Lyles is one fast dude, but way too into himself. Good story in Kung Fu Kenny that beat him. Men’s wall speed climbing was exciting too. American gets World Record, but bronze.

Anyway, back to the NFL. Hoping Stillers pass on Aiyuk and the story just goes away. I can’t stand how long the coverage has been on him. Good player, but 49ers offense is stacked. Possibly best O line in league, which makes every offensive player look better. Just not too sure he will be worth what asking.

Spot on opinion in regard to Steelers and 49ers.

How did the person who invented the first clock know what time it was?

They sure could use him today though…. Missing a ton of starters, so can’t really judge first preseason game. But doesn’t look very good.

Stillers crushed it last preseason, then came out and barely .500 in regular season. Maybe opposite this season. Look like crap in preseason and then…. Oh, crap…

yeah I don't know......seems like the O-line is still trying to sort things out. Lot's of rookie and 2nd yr guys on there they need to get some games under their belt. Russell has barely time to throw or even look downfield, Fields buys a little more time with his legs. I hope Warrens hamstring injury doesn't linger on for weeks. Need that guy.

Agree. Has been the same issue they have had since Big Ben’s last couple of years. They at least have addressed it the past two years with high draft picks. Hopefully they can gel quickly. Kind of stinks they have one less preseason game than many. Going to be hard to evaluate these QBs for future big money extensions if the line keeps playing like it has. I’m hoping they don’t think getting a star WR will solve everything and mortgage the future for it. I don’t know what the QB class is looking like this year, but I think they are to the point of going in for one at this point. Assuming the line does gel.

It's great to have football back. To have the wordsmith, Mike Tomlin back in action, it's great to see how many words one person can use so many words to say so little.
I don't watch the games on TV, radio is my favorite. You've got the DVE pre-pregame show, then the pregame show, then the game itself, then the pre-postgame show, then the postgame show, then the post-postgame show. Enjoy the season folks, the Rooneys bank account thanks you.

Stillers did just enough with starters to justify watching them... The o line looked good, but not really sure how many Lions starters were missing? If missing their Watt, Hayward, Highsmith and Fitzpatrick, then not meaning much. But that line got another game under their belt. I’m not a fan of watching preseason, but imagine it helps that unit more than most. I guess that means a few less Sunday fishing trips until they become unwatchable. Now I know what it is like to have been a Browns fan for 25-30 years…

The offense looked a little better, but the O-line got banged up and the backups did not impress. I liked the long pass to Dez Fitzpatrick....seeing that #82 jersey running down the field with the ball kinda brought back some good memories......for a minute or two. I know there's been times where it was tough to make choices on cut-down day, but this yr I can think of 3-4 guys right away that should get dumped. As for the Lions, I got the impression they were just trying to get thru the day without injuries.

I hear you on the numbers and memories. Although the best #82 in my memory is Antwon Randle El…. Stallworth was a shell of himself when I was old enough to watch him. So the few years that Randle El was productive, had at least more of an impact on my memory than Stallworth. I do remember him still being on the team when the police used to give out Steelers cards, but he was more of “you should have seen him 5-10 years ago”. During preseason, I don’t know 1/4 of the numbers to names, so most of them end up with a name from 20-30 years ago. I actually surprise myself how a name that I haven’t heard in forever will pop in my head from seeing a jersey number.

Super Bowl??? Maybe in 2-3 years, if extremely lucky. Fields looked pretty much like the guy from last year with pretty much identical stats. I’m not sure if he did enough to be the starter next week if Wilson is down. They kind of got themselves in a tricky situation with the QBs. Patrick Queen looked awfully like Devin Bush. I really hope that isn’t what he is going to bring. He had to lead them on missed tackles. Watt looked like Watt and huge reason of why they won. Hayward looked good, I can’t imagine he has more than a year of solid play though. I hope he got the guarantee money he wanted and put in the agreement that he will retire when they tell him he isn’t needed.

Yeah, it was fugly! Ya shouldn't have to rely on your placekicker to score (all) of the points.   Quite a few opportunities but they weren't capable of capitalizing.

I thought Fields was ok. He was off-target early in the game but once he settled down he was more accurate. The O-line didn't give him alot of time and he has happy feet. Patrick Queen was pretty good in pass coverage over the middle, but his tackling, and the run D in general, needs work. The Falcons RB Robinson was tearing off 5-7 yards every time he got the ball. Their best player was Boswell, that guy is money. Best news was the rest of the AFC North lost this week.

Falcons stomachs must be churning after Cousins performance. They paid that guy a kings ransom!

They will somehow get to 9-8 and be the 7th seed, and get lit up 35-10 in wildcard game to Josh Allen or CJ Stroud

And will have to mortgage the future for a top QB pick or settle for whatever QB is at pick 25 or so. I highly doubt their QB of the future is on their team now. I’d be thrilled if Fields were to turn into that guy suddenly, but I think he is just showing more of what Chicago decided wasn’t worth keeping around.

Jones benched after three penalties on the same drive, but fortunately Joey Porter only had 3 penalties for the whole game, though two of them came on the same drive. Porter is now in his 3rd year(?)  and appears he's never gonna learn to keep his hands off the receiver. He's touchin' or grabbin' from the 5 yard mark at the line off scrimage to deep down field. I'm surprised he's not called on every play.

My thought on JPJ, if you are going to be that handsy of a player, then maybe wear gloves that AREN’T BRIGHT YELLOW, when the other team has on white jerseys…. Not that the one that he almost pulled off the guy’s undershirt would make a difference. But his hands just stood out, so I’m guessing made it easier for the refs to see him grabbing and putting his hands too high.
