Filet knife recommendation
I don't have a boat so i don't fish for crappie/perch much but i do fish for walleye from shore and steel. I keep em too! Recommendations on a good filet knife that won't break the bank please?

Dexter 7”, under $15, stays sharp and sharpens to a razor blade with little effort. I also have a Cutco Fisherman’s Solution, $120. I never reach for the Cutco. Dexter one does need you to buy the sheath separately, so $40 if you want their sheath. You can get a Mercer Culinary protector for cheap instead. I left a Dexter and sheath at a cabin and was super bummed over it. I replaced it with the 8”, but I like the 7” better. Has a skinnier point, which is nice to start through the skin filleting.

I have a cordless Bubba. It came with 2 batteries and 4 different blades. Covers everything I do. I had a Rapala cordless that was nice. I still use it once in awhile. I haven't fileted a fish with a manual in eons.

I do have a corded Rapala. But only use if I get a mess of panfish. I don’t ever catch a mess of larger fish that I keep.

Have quite a few brands of manual fillet knives. The one I like the least is the Buck folding, the handles have a little play in them so gave away over 50 to friends and family, LOL! None of them will brake the bank is you use it often. Don't use my Cutco's very often but buy them cheap when I can. Got a 100 Mustad's this month and they seem okay but haven't tried yet. Have over 700 Dexter Russell's in all styles taking up room. Best bang for the buck IMO. Learn how to keep a razor sharp edge is the most important thing with any knife so less chance of getting hurt. https://dexter1818.com/about-us/

Bad luck lately, storm around 1:00 am knocked out the fridge. Did save over 2 grand on a new unit (last one) this morning so not a terrible thing. Little to much with the extra round ball ice maker for fancy drinks in the back and hidden front door panel for condiments though. Takes about 15 minutes to change the control panel so will save for a backup. All refrigerators are junk these days, even the ones $3,000++ smh. Least they can deliver it tomorrow morning since it was one odd ball in the back, otherwise would be close to a week to get. Put all ice-cream and popsicles in the deep freezer

No biggie on the shipping. It is only a 7", $15 knife. The ole lady brought a couple back. The sheath is on the reverse side. The Crappie/Perch will pick-up from shore by the end of Sept., Good Luck!

Get yourself a Rada knife sharpener. Super easy way to get a nice edge.

I tend to get a little out of control buying certain things. Meat cutting items are one like commercial grinders, slicers and mixers. Have 3 industrial dual 8" wheel bench top knife sharpeners and 2 others that are mounted on stands. Best way to finish is with a compound and paper wheel if want to take it to those extremes. Then 7 0r 8 very large diamond wheel stones. Some very thick and others a large dia. A few take 2 people to carry. Only use 2 of them with different grit. Rest are still boxed. I'll lay them on their side flat and play around sharpening. 98 percent of the time I use a few different stones with handles similar to below and diamond steels. https://www.sharpeningsup...g8NEAQYByABEgIK1PD_BwE

Back in the day I used a leather strop like on the side of a barber's chair used for sharpening a razor during a shave for a finale edge. A leather belt works great. Forgot I have one of these cheap Delta bench tops. I used it once. Threw away the black water cup dispenser by mistake forgetting what it went to https://www.ebay.com/itm/...inxwqfuASDw2hZAYXYq_aY

My fav. always was/still is the stand by wooden handle rapala knives in varying lengths. Had the right flex for my style of fileting. Worked on everything from bluegill/crappie all the way up to 50# plus AJ's and groupers. Had them since before I moved to TX in the early 2000's and still use the same ones today (although not nearly as often as I would like). My mid size one has cleaned thousands of walleyes over the years. I use my old plastic handled one (rapala) as a bait knife in my saltwater tackle bag. Not nearly as useful as the wood handled ones.
