Kayak Love
Hey guys did a lot of chromin last year and saw all the kayaks and float tubes on elk. Was thinking since this is becoming super popular on such a small area of creek that you can literally cast across, I will be doin some yak trolling starting out at Folleys End and meeting up with all the smart fellers at the mouth. Or we can just drop our yaks at the steratania hole and have everyone cast around us? This would also work at Walnut just past the bridge! And if business is booming we can move onto the mile creeks! Nothing like dropping an anchor and line in the creek and watching everybody thats five feet away from you get jealous! Gonna be a good year folks:)

Can you let everyone know when you go over the dam on Four Mile? I'll get back to you when there's enough water in the creek that you won't have to walk the 7 or 8 miles from the Gorge, which is the usual water level. And could you please do 20 Mile and 16 mile? And let us know about those too! You'll have fun going down the falls on both. Should be a real blast.

In all seriousness, I am considering using my yak in front of Walnut or Elk or Trout Run. Get out far enough so the shore guys aren't casting into me, and throw spoons or fish live bait for Steel.

We have a guy in customer service that does that at Trout Run. He goes in 10-12FOW and throws spoons behind his kayak and trolls. Says its a blast when they hit this time of year because of how aggressive they are.

I have always wanted to myself but never did. A few of the old posters here used to do it. I believe Deetz did a lot and had sent me some tips in a PM way back. You need to pick your days wisely. Stay out of range of guys from shore, who can cast spoons pretty far. I’m pretty sure you need to follow all Lake Erie boating guidelines with the flare and other stuff too. Best to go out with a partner if possible.

I wished I saved up for a pedal kayak, trolling would be a blast, still might try it just by paddling

Its going to have to be flat calm day for sure. I have handheld marine radio and some flares for my 16 foot boat, which I could always use to troll with, but the yak seems so much more fun

You can launch right next to the smaller streams as well. Motor boat, you may need to travel a bit on the water. Which is fine until conditions change quicker than you thought. Kayak to the closest beach and carry. Most likely, you aren't venturing too far from your launch. I put a lot of thought into it, but just always found the inland lakes to be enough enjoyment to risk it. You live a bit closer to Erie (I believe). It takes me about 2.5 hours to get to a creek access. I rarely find 5 hours to get away, yet 5 hour travel time and able to fish for 4-5 hours.

There are numerous 'Tuber Channels from the West Coast. They go out in San Fran Bay and troll. They catch all species. I don't see why it would be any different. With the right outfit, you could easily troll 2 rods. Maybe a spoon on 1 and Thunderstick Jr on the other. Hey I saw guys out in 40FOW this summer in a canoe with an electric. I chit you not..

Yea thats a good idea, be on the lake out of reach from the shore casters. This was obviously a sarcastic post. Went to Elk quite a bit this last year. And for those not familiar, Elk is not some giant river. You can essentially cast across it. This last year Elk was like a log jam with kayaks and float tubs, as if Elk doesn't get crowded enough now you have to deal with people floating in the middle of a small creek

Yeh. I knew that. But I have seen jokers trying to float down Four Mile creek. They make it to the GE parking lot, and end up pulling their kayaks down the creek to the parking area by the Fishing Club. It was really too bad they didn't make it to the dam. This was back when you could fish there, by the dam outflow.

Will the steel be up to Rt 5 from these rains? I have a long drive and need time to stop at Sportsman's Warehouse off of 279 on my way. Does Poor Richards still have Cajun flavor steel too? Thanks in advance.

can anyone clarify? I "thought" in Ohio inland lakes the regs for boats 12ft or less were different (less stuff needed) but I'm old duud, and that was 15 years ago when I had pontoon puddle jumper no clue on regs on the Big Lake nor PA regs Thanks ..L.T.A.
