New law expands use of Lake Erie Permit funds

On July 10, 2020, the Pennsylvania Legislature amended the Fish and Boat Code, and the provision that identifies the permitted uses of the Lake Erie Permit funds. Before this new law, the funds could only be used to provide public fishing access or to protect or improve fish habitat. With this amendment, now the funds can also be used "for other projects that support public fishing on or at Lake Erie, Presque Isle Bay and their tributaries." This new law, which is Act 56 of 2020, can be read HERE. The section on the Lake Erie Permit is section 2907.2.

Maybe first project should be a better launching area on Elk. Dredge that mouth alittle also. Would make a world of difference.

I just hope they don't drift away from the original mission, with "other projects"

My guese is they throw it mostly at the Bayfront to fix flooding damage.
Anyone know anything about that project where they said they were going to clean out the tubes on elk???
I d like to see some work done at ramp and mouth of Elk too but then again the way it is keeps the crowds away.

Re new funds:  What I would like to see:  1 or 2 more wardens to patrol lower Elk and Walnut.  Make Walnut and Elk from Rt 5 to the lake  totally C & R.  A well-planned access for wheel-chair using fishermen  (i'm being selfish)  which could be a just above mean water level ramp and platform with a low fence (18 inches) to truly allow handicapped (wheelchair) fishermen access.  I'm no engineer but I could design a better access in my sleep than the two there are now.  A fish ladder on Walnut.  Improve Elk boat launch, and the other Marina depths.  Clean the Porta-Potties.  And add accessible Porta-Potties near parking areas.
Now regarding the water-level access.  I don't know about other Handicapped fishermen , , BUT  most of us are smart enough to NOT enter a ramp during high water conditions.

Indi I don't see where you're being selfish at all. I say your suggestion/request are quite reasonable.

As for the "high water" conditions... a simple sign saying something like "Closed due to (or during) High Water" should take care of that problem.

Heck, entire boat launch access sights (around the state) are closed with a sign saying the same thing.

Even though I have never purchased a (ripoff) trout or lake stamp and have no dog in this fight, IMHO this recent law (eventually), reeks of general fund/pensions.

it would be nice to see some funds put into some artificial reefs on the main lake , not everyone fishes for trout or salmon !
