10 River Fishing Tips
See below our 10 top tips for river fishing!
1 When targeting carp on running water, pre-baiting is key! They are able to travel large distances very quickly so make sure you regularly introduce bait beforehand.
2 When chub fishing, it’s essential to keep feeding regardless of if you’re getting bites or not. The teasing will eventually encourage chub into feeding.
3 The weather is an important factor when it comes to success with river bream. Try to avoid bright sunshine and aim for warm and overcast days instead.
4 Cheese paste is the ultimate bait when it comes to feeding chub in coloured water.
5 On some days, chub may be after tiny bait. Choose one or two maggots over paste and pellets.
6 Having a tiny hook isn’t essential for large roach. It’s more important to ensure that the point is showing to maximise hooking.
7 Spot trends! Taking notes during sessions that include the time of your catches and the weather can help spot any patterns.
8 Prioritise locating a shoal of fry when looking for big perch. Predators should be close!
9 When fishing for bream, search for areas of the river where the water slightly widens. They often sit in deep, wider areas of water and will be away from any weed or cover.
10 Whilst pre-baiting will get fish into a swim, it’s the small loose feed such as casters and hemp that will actually keep them there.
Happy river fishing!
