That's their answer to the issue with the gizzard shad (41% of the total survey catch-6800 shad).....keep your fingers crossed.

In regards to the 6,800 Gizzard Shad that were netted, did they return these to the lake, or did they dispose of them?

That was mid 70s Capt. before the PFBC catered to the BASS association or the live bait anglers didn't use shad for bait which is why all the area lakes suddenly became polluted with shad in the 90s. That, was about the same time fish specific lakes was the agenda of the PFBC which the PFBC still denys. In my book, Wilhelm is returning to the lake it once was. An all around fishing lake intended for the enjoyment of all anglers. Howeverrrrrrr....... the powers need be keeping a close eye on the pan fish, such as crappie, gills, & perch, being harvested from the lake. IMHO..... if not already, daily "creel" limits should be imposed. In other matters, a shoutout to Mikesdad and thanks for the info. Hope to see all younz all on Wilhelm, this Spring. Good times and tight lines.

I personally like pike. Anyone who enjoys a good fight on the line should enjoy catching pike. And if you have a shad prob, you have a solution....bring back the pike. NOT the hybrids that eat everything, aren't really a good ice fishing species and require continual stocking to maintain their population. PFBC: BRING BACK THE PIKE.

I agree. Bring back the pike. Thoroughbred Northerns, and/or more Muskies, not hybrids that can't reproduce. Do it on Lake Arthur, too.
Never try to argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Howdy howdy Wilhelm Fans....... I'll take walleye, N pike, & barn door slabs. Throw in a few bass too. Bringing back the original PFBC would be a great thing too.😁

Well, if Wilhelm was stocked with thoroughbred Northern Pike, and they failed to become self sustaining, wouldn't it be cheaper to stock Tiger Musky, since PFBC already does that? Why go out and source Northern Pike eggs/milt when you already have a Tiger program up and running? I would like to catch Northerns in Wihlem, but clearly that lake is not compatible for them.

PSU when Wilhelm first opened we nicknamed it "lake of the hammerhandle".
Northern Pike were a PITA.
I'd much rather deal with over population of N. Pike after the pike deal with the over population of shad.
Takes a big predator to consume big shad.
Tigers are OK too, the more predators the merrier.
Maybe see some younz on Wilhelm this coming season.

😁😛 Bucket mouths...... the very cause for the issue at hand and "not" just with Wilhelm.
