Fluorocarbon for Steelhead

Does anyone here run straight fluorocarbon mainline for float fishing steelhead? I fished next to a guy this week who was float fishing a tipped jig with just fluorocarbon. No leaders, no additional knots, no micro swivels. He managed to land two fish while I was doing surgery on my terminal tackle. I know fluorocarbon doesn’t float & is hard to see, but is there really any more drawbacks to using it from reel to hook/lure? Thanks.

    unless they've reformulated it in recent years...
    I never found the light test stuff to be durable enough to spool the reel with it.
    the first 20-30 ft gets worn/abraded/weak and breaks too easily within a short period of time compared to mono

    Mono does feel more sturdy, less breakable in general. I just might want to give this a shot and see how it works for me so I don’t fuss with my terminal tackle as much as I do.

    I've used 6lb. Gamma 100% fluorocarbon on my spinning reel ....no major problems but it did hold spool memory after not using awhile...seemed fine overall....I like mono too . They say any line 6lb. or less is all almost invisible to fish so don't waste your money on expensive lines....I'll agree with that overall from my experiences in most conditions.

    Floro does not degrade over time and can be of harm to wild life if you loose a spool full of line due to a reel bird nesting.

    I have used seaguar invisx 6lb flouro straight to my spool for years. No issues. Occasionally I’ll go down to 4lb tippet in very clear water. But why tie extra knots and risk breakage? I fish bait, flies and jigs no problem.

    You fish these under a float I assume with the fluorocarbon from reel to hook? & no leader unless you decide to use 4lb tippet... just making sure I’m picking up what you’re putting down here.

    I have had some problems fishing straight flouro from reel to hook, some of the flouro had little or no stretch and have some break offs

    I've had good luck with seguar invisx in 4 or 6lb.

    I've had good luck with seguar invisx in 4 or 6lb.

    I use 2 pound flouro as my mainline and then I run 0x tippit. I have never lost a fish.
