Any rod builders here

I'm in the process of getting set up to build rods and just wondered if anyone else was into it?
I plan to get blanks from Edge & St. Croix and the basics from mudehole.com

I looked at that site many times .Yes it would be cool But worth it IMO no . I can buy the same rod with warranty and be using it in two days for what 30 to 40 bucks more . I don't have the time to even make flies anymore . I wish you all the luck and look forward to your progress if you do it !

I’m into making my own flies and soft plastics. Thought about doing a rod seems easy enough but just don’t have the time now maybe in the future.

Definitely have to say, as a hobby go for it. As for saving money building quality custom rods, not so much. In fact, I would recommend buying a few off brand cheaper blanks, before buying the expensive blanks and finding, you're really not into rod building as you thought.

That being said, I do find it to be a savings repairing fishing rods, for myself and friends, when it involves eyelets, handles, ferrules and such.

I use Mudhole for most of my supplies with my last purchase being a device that acts like a lathe, keeping the rod turning allowing the epoxy and other finishes to dry without sagging.

If ya haven't already, search Youtube for rod building vids. Some awesome rod builders out there.

Good luck and keep us updated with pics.

Skip16503 used to do a lot of rod building and rod repair. He may be able to help you get started.  He very rarely posts here anymore but if you don't already have his info from the 1 Fly years drop me a PM and I will try to get him in touch with you.

Yes. Very rewarding..Nothing better than catching fish on a rod you built...

Heck... I found it rewarding if the rods I repaired, didn't fall apart by the end of the day. 😩

Speaking of ST Croix, I'll stand corrected, but I'm thinking Croix began and still may be in part, a cottage industry.

If that's the case, Croix might be in the market for rod builders.

I seem to recall, mentioning my resume and Croix was all too excited for me to start work, as soon as possible, at one of their competitors.😒

I gotta go now, time for weaving by numbers class.
