Brocton - Portland - Dunkirk

Hi all,

Rented a cabin along the lake shore near Brocton next month.   Wife and 2 boys.  We want to fish some while we are there.  If the wife and I get our 7 day NY state license what options do we have?   Is there fishing to be done on the beach?  Any local piers around or good fishing access points? Not even sure what a $27 7day non resident entitles us to fish. Is Lake Erie additional stamps? Never been in the area but my kids love to fish so any advice would be appreciated. What is there to do in Chautauqua County?  Thanks in advance.

Lake Erie state park offer any fishing? Not much around Portland....

What about Long Point Park on lake Chautauqua for fishing?

If you reviewed the board, you would see that all of 2019 brought 3 other posts, all "give me the inside scoop on yer area so I can commup and catch a mess of fish to take back to "fill in the blank"" (and if that is West Virginia, many of us have encountered some very bad actors from your state on local streams).  So there is nearly no one from that part of the state that uses this board.  Try asking the guy you rented from, he has an economic interest in seeing you do well.  As to what you (us, plural) can do with the $27 license, you plural can't do anything with it, the person who buys it can fish but if wifey and  16+ kiddo and uncle mort want to fish, they all need one of those 27 dollar 7 day licenses as well.  As to species, etc, read the book that comes with the license and follow some of the links, or go to the NYSDEC website, and type in  the water body you are interested in in the search box.  Most of us put away our feeding spoons around the time we learned that "the fish are in the water," and " They are biting on the end of my line."(Almost never true for me.)

Buddy I'm not looking to come up and keep your precious fish to take home.  We release everything. ( yeah I'm from WV and we don't like you arrogant locals either who for some reason get upset when we come spend tons of cash at restaurants, motels, bait shops to fish for "your" fish)
I also understand who needs a license.  We have been fishing erie tribs for years for steelhead and never once kept one.  I know my way around in the fall/winter.  This is the first time we decided to come up in the summer.  We plan to golf, swim, hang on the beach, etc.  Just looking for advice on where to do a little fishing is all and if you are allowed to fish right on the lake shore with said licenses.  The cabin owner doesn't fish so I thought I would turn to this board which was likely a bad idea.  But don't worry I'll figure it out when I come mup.

I'm arrogant, but you started the beotch with yer second post.  My experience of WV fishers is the 1000's of dollars of damages done to a farmer's field that used to be open, but has since gone posted, when they were up fer the " fall frenzy."

Thanks for the links those are helpful.  Sorry for coming off rude it's just your comment at wv'ians struck a nerve.   when your fishing the tribs up there if it is known you are from WV you sure get the cold shoulder and usually crowded out.   I never could get that cause we are up there going to the bars and motels and such spending money.   I'm sorry you had a bad experience but for the most part WV people are respectful to others.
