High Point Lake level

anyone been here recently?  lake was low last season - had to wade in to launch boat - how about this year?

    It is good to go, went up about a month ago. Had a blast with shiners in anywhere from 6-12. Probably heading back at some point in May.

    did you use the south or north ramps?
    we prefer the south but it's been a major challenge recently.

    We used the south ramp. It wasn’t too bad, but my trailer is pretty beefy for my boat.

    That panoptix looks amazing. I have watched a few youtube videos on it, they were referring to it as video game fishing.

    This is one of my favorite PA lakes, it is close, and there are always a variety of fish to catch. I would love to tie into a nice pike in there, but we always catch sizable pickerel and bass, and usually some crappie. I have yet to get into any nice perch or walleye, but I don’t really target them either.

    I have yet to get into any nice perch or walleye, but I don’t really target them either.



    I also like that lake for the variety it offers - but don't hold your breath trying to catch walleye - almost 30 years on that lake for me and we caught exactly one about 17 inches fishing for pike.  jumbo perch on the other hand can be had - we've had days when we got a dozen or so up the 13inches!!  not easy though and not recently.

    check out the you tube video on musky fishing with the panoptix its incredible . he actually jigged the musky to the bait seen it hit the jig on the finder.

    I've fished High Point for 40 years.  When I first fished it walleye and jumbo perch were plentiful.  Also decent catches of bluegill could also be expected.  The pike have always been plentiful.  Very seldom would you catch a chain pickerel, small mouth bass, or crappie.  There were very few weeds!  After years the fishing declined, the bluegills seemed stunted, the walleyes all but disappeared and the jumbo perch were fewer.  I did start to catch some nice smallmouth and a few big crappies.  One day I ran into a fish biologist at the lake and asked him what happened.  He said, "this used to be a high mountain non fertile lake, but the water run off from the limestone at the quarry and a little creek that's runs into the lake has made it a fertile lake".  Hence all the weeds!  He said what used to be generally a walleye and perch lake has now become a bass and crappy lake.  The lake seems to have come back some, but I doubt it will ever be like the "good ole days".  The weeds are here to stay.
