pope & young scoring

Do you have to pay for someone to score a rack for you? If so how much? thanks  sam

    Official scorers are volunteers. At least they should be. Tipping is probably a common occurrence.

    • Once the drying period has elapsed, the successful hunter would get in contact with one of the Club’s volunteer official measurers to make arrangements to have the antlers/horns/skull scored. The Club has a corp of trained volunteer official measurers around North America who generously provide the public service of measuring these animals for entry into the Records. A list of official measurers in each state or province is available upon request from the Club’s headquarters, or can be found in the “Find a Measurer” portion of this web site.
    • If it meets the entry requirements, then the bowhunter (typically with the assistance of the measurer) completes and submits the necessary paperwork to the Club.

    Just read that there was a new PA archery record set from Westmoreland. Over 180” typical.

    I've seen a little debate in a few other places about the legitimacy of the record under those circumstances.  Doesn't really bother me personally, and I say congrats to the hunter. 
     
    But I can see the point that some have made that it's quite possible he wounded it just enough so that 'yotes or a bear killed it and that his shot wasn't fatal.  Hard to say, but what a buck.

    Never should have been accepted by the PGC.
    He found a dead head, what 6 weeks after he shot it..
    You can not prove to me he made the fatal shot on that animal..
    Pgc just trying to make their AR's look better with a new record book buck...

    I’m not sure, but I don’t think a person actually has to shoot the deer for it to be a record. If I recall correctly, and I might not be, some entries were listed as “found,” although that might not have been in PA.

    A former coworker in Iowa shot and wounded a massive buck with a muzzleloader. He tracked it into a residential area. Because it was dark, he returned the next day with a bow, supposedly due to the proximity to homes, and finished the deer with an arrow.

    While it was not the state record, it ranked pretty high and was accepted as an archery kill.

    That buck should be in the book as a pick up. There is no way to even remotely know if that deer was hunter killed after finding it over a month after hitting it with an arrow. I can certainly understand and would support scoring a deer as hunter killed after recovering it within a few days or a week. But 6 weeks is not something I agree with.

    Reasons to shoot small to average size bucks. I never need to get them scored,mounted or brag about the monster I got. lol
