Jigging spinner

Has anyone used a jigging spinner lure before? I just read an article on these working well in the Spring/ice off. These warm spells have ice off fishing on my mind. I've seen them before in stores, but never thought to try. I saw some nice looking versions, Spro ASP. Anyone ever use anything similar with any success?

Have used the Northland fireball spinners and the Northland whistlers for panfish several times, they are productive lures.
Even used them for pellet heads (stream and pond) with success.

Have you ever used those vertical jigging?  I do have some Roadrunner jig heads, that I have had decent success, casting and retrieving.  Larger ones seem to work well for smaller largemouth and smaller ones on more aggressive panfish.  I can't say that I have ever used vertical jigging, or at least with any success.  I can't say that I have had much success vertical jigging anything...  I'm betting it is much more in my presentation than what I am using though.

The only thing we've done vertical with them has been for Perch on Erie...they worked for that too.

We have used the roadrunner before at Pymy. Cant recall them standing out as superior to other baits or methods.

I'm going to try vertical jigging this summer for holdover pellet heads come July/August in a local lake. I'm talking 25-40 feet deep. Last summer I failed miserably trying to use mini-divers and tadpoles to get to the depths I needed. I have been up to the Finger Lakes, and they vertical jig quite well for Lake Trout. Spoons and also tubes for Lakers. I want to try it here on a smaller scale. I have some Northland Buckshot rattle spoons, Cabela's HDS jigging spoons, and will also try some smaller curly tail grubs on a round ball jig head.

When you guys vertical jig, do you usually target fish that you are marking on the bottom, or go after suspended fish?  I have tried both, with limited success.  I also alter how I jig, small snapping twitches, longer smooth raise and drops, ect.  Using sonars, Rapala jigging raps, curly tails, buck tails, rattle traps, jig head and minnows and even Erie Dearies.  I just can't seem to figure it out.  Something that I end up spending hours doing, then wishing that I just focused on the much more willing panfish!  Half of the time that I am having some success, I will end up blind casting out and straight retrieving with jigging and end up doing better than the vertical jigging (that I am marking a ton of fish).  I know the walleye pros crush fish vertical jigging.  I'll mimic exactly (or what I think is exactly...) what they are doing, and nothing.  I'm hoping to crack that code this year.

Last year, I was marking fish right on top of the thermocline down 35 feet on Justus. So now that I have the lures to try it, I think I'll look for marks of suspended fish. Maybe try drifting real slow and try best I can to keep jig vertical. I will try to mix up the action of the jig with snappy twitches and smooth lifts of the rod tip....but I really think the downward flutter is what triggers the bite.

edit: Found how to post this picture. Its a little blurry, but you can see a clear thermocline and something that appears to be munching on a bait ball

Nice, that looks like something to target too.

I hope you know, planning to drift really slow and keep vertical, likely means 20mph winds and blown all over the lake...  At least seems to be what happens to me!

    Good idea on the windsock.

Here is the lure that I am thinking to get.  Anyone ever have any luck with anything similar?

I got something very similar to that lure in my Mystery Tackle Box one time...I have yet to use it. Don't see why it wouldn't work with cast and retrieve or possibly cast it out, rip it, let it fall, repeat.

Yeah, I thought it might mimic two fish that are close to each other.  The article mentioned vertical jigging them.  I have a feeling the blade would get caught up in your line a good bit though, when vertical jigging.  When I vertical jig sonars, one of my hooks gets caught up on my line pretty often.  Hopefully one of the bait shops by Arthur has in their selection. I didn't see anything online with FishUSA.  Most likely, just one of those lures that catch the fisherman...  I have a bunch of those already!

Those jig heads look awesome.  Look like Do-It Ultra minnows, that someone modified.  I could see those working great.

My man with the 4 Alabama rigs, has a pretty pricey snag!  I lost one of those before, and felt sick to my stomach...
