Tough goin' on the Allegheny

Seems like a bad year for walleyes everywhere except Erie. We're gettin' an occasional small one here and there, but the perennial favorite spots are devoid of fish this year compared to the same time of year last year. Should have been nailin' them is these spots; nothing! 6 hours on the river today yielded 3 very light walleye bites, whiffs on all three of them, two of which I brought back just the head of a fathead, and one 15" channel cat in the boat. Sure hopin' it picks up before the end of the month, as I have another weeks vacation scheduled for the last week. Guess that's why they call it fishin', not catchin'!

Apparently you don't know how or where to fish for walleyes in the Allegheny...

Agreed. Was out for a little on Monday and water was quite warm. Usually turns on when water is almost too cold to wade in shorts. We are not there yet.

Blew a weeks vacation last week and it pretty much rained all week. Didn't get nothin' done around the house, and never got the boat on the water either. Now, the river's up 3 feet and movin, and we're under  severe thunderstorm warnings right now as I post, so the river will pretty much be blown out for a week or so. This is NOT normal fall fishin' on the Allegheny. I'm gonna have no choice but to go to a lake, and since I haven't really "road tested" the 15 Merc, that would mean Shenango with my 45 Merc. I guess I could take the 15 along, hit Arthur, which is much closer, and give it a working "road test". If it by chance would fail, (which I doubt), I could get it back to the launch with the electric. Wouldn't want to take the chance on lowerin' the big motor, as Murphy's Law as it applies to Mitchell, there'd be a PFC cop watchin' through binoculars and waitin' for me when I got in.
