Gander Mountain Chain sleeps with the fishes
For the one or two people that did not see the Godfather movie, Gander Mountain is closing all stores and going out of business. Another one bites the dust.

Yep Greensburg is closed, West Mifflin is closed, Washington is having close out sales now and I have it from a good source that the brand new Monroeville store, which they just completed 12-18 months ago has not officially been told they are closing but were also told not give any in store credit or sell gift cards. Only good thing is that you should be able get some great deals even if it is a sad thing. Sad the only retail store that specifically caters to sportsmen will be either Cabela's in WV or Field N Stream in Cranberry. Only a handful of small fly shops still open in the area.

Gift cards must be used by May 18th.
Gander Mountain was acquired by Camping World Holdings. That company says the name "Gander Mountain" will continue to be part of the specialty outdoor market.
Camping World CEO, Marcus Lemonis, on Twitter regarding the future of the Wichita's Gander Mountain. "Looks good but rent needs some relief," was his response.

A friend of mine was at the Greensburg store yesterday, they told him that May 14th was their last day. They already have been marking stuff down. I am surprised that they lasted this long. There was seldom many customers there, also pretty pricey & couldn't get them to order stuff, they said that their stuff was ordered by headquarters with little input from the local stores. sam

There were never any bargains at any of the stores mentioned. All of them were retail an item at Gander and cabelas and field and stream were pretty much the same price. What made one a bargain over the other was how far you had to drive the get there!!!! I do miss sportsman whse in north hills though but there prices were even higher.

Went to Gander Mt. in Johnstown today. Don't waste your time! When we got there we could see people leaving the store empty handed. The sale sign says 10% to 30% off (mostly 10%). When inside, it seemed like a good bit of the quality items were missing. Several things I went to check out were not on the shelves anymore. It's my opinion they will be restocked later either in the same store or elsewhere. If you plan on going don't get your hopes up. P.S. My brother and I left empty handed too.

Ain't that sumthin, a liquidation sale promoting 10 to 30% off. Travel to a store annnnd nothing you want, is on sale or been out of stock. Ummm, anybody subscribe to the newsletter from FishUSA? I've received numorous discount promos the past two weeks giving as much as 15% off, items in stock, and I sit in the comfort of my home knowing my new toys will arrive (for me) in two days. Or a 1 hour drive gits me to a store where I will find, in stock, the item I just traveled for.

Flawed business model. Come on, you're supposed to be this big hunting/fishing/outdoor store but yet most of your employees know nothing about what you're selling. They never have decent sales on anything and they don't stock items that are specific to the area the store is located in. You need somebody at each store that knows hunting/fishing in that specific area and stocks items according to what people in that area need. A store in Pittsburgh should probably have more fishing stuff geared towards river fishing than say the store in Greensburg for example.

I was up there before the going out of business sale and got a 15% discount on total purchase. So they are not giving out any deals. Maybe closer to the closing they will off more off but there won't be anything good left. The paper today said they don't know if the store will re-open under the new ownership. Camping World bought all the stores I believe.

I was up there a couple of weeks ago and the store had a lot of empty spaces. I tried to buy a marine battery and an anchor. They did not have either in stock. I agree about a lot of the inventory will be restocked in the same store or another one.

Stopped at the Greensburg store earlier. Most stuff was marked 10% off, clothing was mostly 20% off. Firearms and ammo were not discounted at all.

I quit dealing with GM after catching the same cashier double ringing some items about 3 different times. Had her call the manager and he acted like he didn't want bothered and I was in the wrong. After I showed him the receipt he just told her to fix it and walked away. So did I and never returned! Gives me a little satisfaction they're going under.

I was at the Erie store the other day and an employee told me that the rumor is Camping World and Sportsmans Warehouse are trying to workout a deal on the closed locations to be bought and opened as Sportsmans Warehouse. But I would much rather drive any distance to go to any store other than Field and Stream which is 10 minutes from my house.

Camping World bought Gander Mountain but they did not buy the merchandise. They will keep 70 stores open. Don't expect to find great deals. The merchandise is already sold to a liquidator. The are controlling the prices and discounts, and what doesn't sell they will be packing up and taking. This is what I have been told

I believe you are correct.......I don't expect any great deals. Seems over the years all these chain stores have become more expensive on outdoor gear. Even with competition, most prices are not much different store to store. All high ! Dic' s had some decent deals over the early years on fishing gear, but they have slipped bad too. Walmart's fishing gear isles are pitiful just basics... if that. Guess online is the way to go about 90% of the time. Fish USA and Cabalas for me.

Was just on the web searching for a shotgun price and up popped Gander Mountain. When I clicked on it, I was redirected to Overton's, which did not recognize the item number.

More likely the result of a "Trojan Horse" redirect. Could also be a "redirect virus" now affecting your computer.

Gander aquired Overtones's in 2007. For those who are in need for some "potty reading", the following link is the latest directly from the "horse's mouth". https://sgbonline.com/cam...evive-gander-mountain/
