My wife and I and a few others hung a flag off the Montour Trail bridge in Hendersonville when his hearse passed by to the burial, quite a moving moment. He was really a fearless hero.

Ive followed the link you posted kurve and was looking over the rules and it says they want to have a weigh in. Wondering how everyone is going to get there fish back alive and well to the park. Im not trying to start a problem or be negative at all just curious thats all

I've wondered the same, sounds almost impossible unless everyone fishes right there. Many good spots are quite a walk from a vehicle. How bout the heaviest carp bag and give all the dead useless habitat ruining egg eating oversized goldfish to the Amish for fertilizer Sure ain't no shortage of em anywhere in the crick.

We are telling everyone to utilize a cooler or tub with water to bring back fish. Many people in previous tournaments that I met, told me that they hook the fish through the lower lip (def. not anywhere near the gills) and kept them on a line..then when it was time for weigh in, they transported using a big cooler or big plastic tubs (some with aerators attached, even). This kept fish alive and well all day. The tournament is short on purpose-- to ensure all fish come back alive so that the kids and community can see them and to also ensure fish are released alive and well. I hope this information helps. Thank you for asking, guys.

while i believe this is for a great cause as i am local to the area, i would urge caution for anyone removing undersized bass (or other species) from the creek, even if kept alive in a cooler and for a tournament to be released later, they can get fined for "keeping" undersized fish. agree with meatball for once. remove the invasive carp. KingKool, please tell us how carp are good for a stream?

Lol, I'll say sorry for once in my life for something I said..well, not really but I giggled while typing that line of negative adjectives knowing it was gonna rile someone up. Thanks for the info kurve. That crick is a great smallmouth fishery and would be FANTASTIC with a reduced carp population. I'll keep checkin in to keep the thread up cause this tourney is for a great cause.

Gilligan JR-- that is a great point. I will talk with the fish commission ASAP (who I invited to join us at the tourney) and make sure that we can somehow parlay this. When speaking with them earlier in the year when I was trying to get this going, they were extremely supportive with all of my questions and diligent about giving me concrete answers. But still, that is something worth my worry... Thanks for the heads up. Again, Meatball, thank you! :)

their eggs and fry provide a food and forage base for numerous aquatic species. they eat zebra mussels and non native crayfish that are dumped into the stream by bass fisherman. How do bass benefit the stream? How do the non native rainbow trout benefit the stream?

carp eat zebra mussels? never heard of that. in chartiers creekno less, where there are no zebra mussles. cool. so you're cool with one invasive as long as it eats another invasive? cool. bass are native to the region. carp are not native to this hemisphere. nobody talking about stockie trout but you.

There's at least one study that says they do (see below)...and you asked how carp benefit "a" stream, not Chartiers Creek. If carp negatively affected Chartiers Creek to such an extreme extent, then why is it that there are so many other fish species in the creek? I would suggest, that water quality improvement that has come about by other factors (less pollution, acid mine drainage, runoff, etc) is what will increase the fishing opportunities in Chartiers Creek. Not the eradication of carp, which will never happen anyway. So just accept that they are here and are a part of the ecosystem now, as they have been for longer than you or I have been alive. Predation on zebra mussels (Dreissena polymorpha) by common carp (Cyprinus carpio) John K. Tucker, Frederick A. Cronin, Dirk W. Soergel Long Term Resources Monitoring Program Pool 26 Illinois Natural History Survey 4134 Alby Street Alton, Illinois 62002 USA and Charles H. Theiling Ecological Specialists, Inc. 114 Algana Ct. St. Peters, Missouri 63376, USA ABSTRACT We examined the gut contents of 31 common carp (Cyprinus carpio) collected at Mississippi River Mile 217 in August 1995 for evidence of predation on zebra mussels (Dreissena polymorpha). We found between 1 and 407 zebra mussel beaks in 83.9% of the fish we examined. For all fish examined, common carp contained 118.2 beaks per fish or about 59 zebra mussels per fish. The survey did not indicate that larger fish consumed more zebra mussels than smaller fish. Estimated valve length for zebra mussels consumed ranged from 1.48 to 42.52 mm with a mean 11.79 mm (SE = 0.10 mm). We found that larger fish tended to prey on larger zebra mussels than did smaller fish. The general size range of zebra mussels consumed by common carp overlapped the upper portion of the size range of young-of-the-year zebra mussels living at the site and the lower portion of the size range of older zebra mussels living at the site. INTRODUCTION The zebra mussel (Dreissena polymorpha) is a recent invader of the Great Lakes and Mississippi River. These mussels attach to available hard substrates using byssal threads (Eckroat et al. 1993). They filter large quantities of water for the food and compete with other molluscs for space and food. Zebra mussels can form dense aggregations on unionid mussels. So ou still need to answer my question: (which I have edited) How do smallmouth bass benefit Chartiers Creek?

L O L, they prob eat their own eggs, or at least obviously many of them, I watched many different species in aquariums eat their own. Non native crayfish would be gobbled up by more smallmouth than carp, cause carp are too busy eating everybody elses eggs. Ever wonder why Canonsburg Lake looks like coffee in late July when it hasn't rained in two weeks? Rooting carp. Now stunted rooting carp cause they ate themselves outta house and home. And that place is overloaded with rusty crayfish

Let's do it! I'll sign up and offer to show you how to catch them nasty old carps. Heck, after that, we can dump in a load of zebra mussels - that way the coffee stained waters will be gin clear in July and the carps will have something to feed on other than bass eggs.

You'll never eradicate, as long as Linden Creek feeds the lake....maybe install an electric fence, across Linden, like they're doing out near Chicago.......

Relax dude, take a break from starbucks. And you wont sign up, cause you are more interested in internet fishing than the real world. I'll bet you a hundred bucks cash you wont be there under that name. And if you show, I'll put 100 bucks toward the hero fund. Carp are easy like bluegill, figure em out on the water, not the internet instructional manual, geez where would you guys be without the internet?
