I made the mistake of traveling up "North" for the adventure on the last day. Figure big woods, private land, snow on the ground (but hopefully not too much) but alas, there was TOO much snow!
Had 16"+ on the ground Saturday AM with it snowing off and on all day. Lasted until 8:30 in the treestand but the wind had picked up, my vision was very limited due to the snow sticking to every branch and twig and the snow was blowing down the back of my neck.
Got down and still hunted to another good spot and set up my ground blind. Stayed there for a couple hours and enjoyed some jerky, trail mix, hand warmers and hot coffee and then took a walk to try and kick some deer to the other two I was hunting with.
Only saw a doe and fawn on that approx. mile hike. Everything was hunkered down due to the snow and wind. didn't even cut many fresh tracks.
Did see two more doe on my walk out in the hemlocks and then 100 yards behind my cousin's barn, walked within 15 yards of a 6 pt. bedded under a tree top. Just saw his head and antlers turning and watching me under his "tent" of snow and tree limbs and new he'd bolt when I stopped, and he did.
Always have the late season.
Good luck to those of you who will be out.
