Arthur report 10/15

Fall perch bite is on!  Going to sum today's catch with this: "I'd be happy to have caught these fish on Erie."  Big fat jumbos today once we found them.  My wife had a spot dialed in and crushed me on jumbos... easily two for my one.  And I had to hook her minnows for her!

Hard to say if we found a good spot with the big ones or if we were just in a good spot when they turned on.  Either way this was easily the trip of the year for us.  On the lake by 10am and off before 4pm.  Bite was after noon for us though we caught fish the whole time.  Not a whole lot of wind, just a few gusts later in the day.  Launch was full of yoyos taking pictures of everything and generally being in the way.  Only non-perch today was one 9" crappie and a couple of gills.

If you can stand the cold I bet the night bite tonight will be ferocious.

I had a client bail on me again, so instead of a 10 hour round trip and 4+ hour meeting, I went fishing!

The warm stretch definitely changed things from a week ago.  Water temp last week was 63, it was over 70 by mid afternoon.  Doing so, pushed the blue gills in where I was finding perch last week.  Still some perch mixed in, and some nice crappie too.  But the gills, which most were not that big, would hit just about any size fat head or jig.  I spent about 2.5 hours looking for wipers and walleye too, but no go.  While trolling/drifting, I did not notice any others doing the same, with bent rods.  Maybe they fared better when I moved to the pan fishing.  I tried a few spots for pan fish, going shallow and deep structure.  They seemed to be on both, but not in force like last week.  I'd expect the patterns to change drastically in the next week.  I usually do not fare well right after a major cold front moves through.  Those brave enough to be out today, likely are getting into some though.  A few days from now, when the weather settles, things should be pretty good.  I doubt this weekend will be much.  Partially why I opted to take advantage of yesterday and burn a vacation day, rather than try my luck on Saturday.  For those getting out, best of luck.

Rained like crazy last night.  Today will be a mess out there.  I'm not able to fish this weekend for the cold front, which probably saves me a bad day on the lake anyway.  Fingers crossed for next weekend.
