Enough motor?

I was wondering what everybody thinks about a Tohatsu 6HP 4-stroke on a older 14 foot semi-v....I don't think it would be enough to plane out with 2 people onboard and gear? The boat weighs 156 lbs.
 
 
Should be fast enough to safely be used from point A to point b in Pymy, Lake Arthur, Woodcock, Wilhelm when the weather is good? I primarily fish electric only lakes...so the 6HP wouldn't be used every weekend.
 
 
Curious of everybody's ideas/thoughts.

    It will push the boat just fine, as long as you aren't concerned with speed.  On plane?  No, but that's mostly nonsense anyway for small waters and small boats.

    I had an old 1972 6hp Johnson 2 stroke  on a 14 ft Sea Nymph deep-v that I added a plywood front casting deck to, and it pushed it just fine. Not sure of boat weight or MPH but it did get me from point A to B. What is max HP rating for your boat? Mine is 25 max.I got a 9.9 with oversize carb and it is 2x faster now.I think 6 will be fine but I would say get as much HP as you can afford it is nice to be able to get off water fast if you need to.

    Rating is for 25 HP. Its a 1974 Alumacraft F7. I would be terrified to put a 25hp motor on it and run it wide open.
     
    I don't think those 1970's max horsepower ratings are accurate for today's outboards

    I agree I wouldnt put a 25 on mine also .My boat is a late 70's Sea Nymph 14R that is 62 inches wide . The 6HP worked fine I just got a great deal on the 9.9 used .I think the 6 will be just fine for your boat. Also check motor weight too heavy may swamp the back end.

    6hp Tohatsu is mid to low 50 lbs. 
     
    The 8 and 9.8 is low to mid 80 lbs.

    I'm thinking all OB motors were required to be rated at the prop shaft beginning 1985. Also differences in overall size between 2 and 4 cycle motors. So I'm thinking.......

    Hi there, although I m based in the UK. I take my 14 foot displacement hulled boat out in the Bristol  
    channel with a mercury 5 hp two stroke motor, and its more than enough, as my type of hull is rated for approx 10 knots tops, any faster than that and youre just burning fuel , although your hull is semi planing I should think a 6 hp will be plenty to get you where you want reasonably quickly, and with the v displacement, you should still get good stability and will still carry a fair bit of weight if needed,    best of both hull types ,planing and displacement...
