Yough River

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has any tips on musky fishing the Yough River. I'm not asking for spots, I have located these fish, but just maybe any lure suggestions or anything whatsoever. I have been targeting these fish for over a year now with absolutely no success. I have a boat and all the necessary gear, such as a net, numerous pliers, jaw spreaders, etc., but I just can't get one. I understand musky fishing is not easy, but going 3-4 days a week for over a year and still being empty handed seems a little much. I see them frequently, so I know they're there, but they have zero interest in anything I try. I have never had a sniff or a follow. When I see them they're just laying on the bottom lazily, or swimming around, but they never have interest in anything I've tried. Just for some more info the main lures I use are regular sized Bull Dawgs, a Phantom Softail 6 inch, Musky Mayhem Baby Girl, a few other inline spinners, and topwaters such as a Super Spook or TopRaider. Literally any info is greatly appreciated, thank you.

It took me 3 full years to catch one on a fly, so you're about a third of the way there.

If you aren't "figure 8-ing" every single cast, that's the first place to start.

    Keep working your butt off?

For what it is worth, not much, my best days have always been on the ugliest days.  Change up your presentation a lot.  If you know you are casting to fish, keep changing your presentation.  Color/size/speed/depth/etc.  Maybe the clear water has them extra fickle?  Are they fished hard?  Maybe try something unconventional like a 12" rubber worm.  Maybe try it when the water is off a little on a rainy day.  Keep working it, it will happen.  When it does, don't let your mind be out jagging around, you don't want to blow it with a trout set.  It will haunt you, or so I have heard.  I have missed more than a couple fish while pulling the fly out of the water, so always make a sharp fast turn when you get close, and figure 8, splash, make some noise, etc.  Other than that, keep hustling.

I have caught literally every other species in this river, muskies are my primary focus, and are hands down the most difficult.

Thanks for the response, I am going to continue working at this. I downsized my lures a little bit the last time I went, and did manage a pike. I don't think they're fished too too hard. I have seen two other guys targeting them at the place where I go, but they are rarely there. You bring up a good point about the clear water, it might be effecting the fish. Currently the river is up a bit so I'll see what happens. And trust me, I'm mentally prepared for when this does happen, I've ran the scenario through my head frequently.
