What's new?

I'm back after the last few years of only 1 or 2 fruitless fishing trips or should I say fishless fishing trips. Hoping to make a few more trips this year.

    old dog
we've had a massive migration of old time posters away from this site. .

some of us are still around ...just not as much.
The new format with all the different sub forums changed everything ...stogy curmudgeons like me hated it
then they tossed all the rif-raf, wise guys and provocateurs...I understand why they did it..and it's their rail road, they can run it any way they choose ..
But all that combined made the place kind of boring

I agree it's good to see some of the "good guys" like Onco back (Welcome back!!)

but I'll admit I miss some of the "drama" entertainment value .
The Great White vs Scottie wars were "epic"

    Welcome back!

    Now then..

Blah blah blah no fish, blah blah blah glory days, blah blah blah we need rain, blah blah blah snaggers, blah blah blah catch and release, blah blah blah blue powerbait & yellow rope & Zebco 33, blah blah blah is it worth it, blah blah blah spoon feeding, blah blah blah posted land, blah blah blah mupheres, blah blah blah spot burning, blah blah blah you just put 50 guys on that spot with that report, and so on and so fourth. Just summed up everything you missed

But seriously, I don't blame you, I also left for a few years and came back. Several years ago, things got very bad, to the extent that almost every thread turned into a bash of somebody, most requests for information or help were met with one legitimate answer for every ten smart alec answers, and god help ya if you posted a photo. Which, I'm a laid back guy who likes to have fun, but as someone who likes to help newbies out with some info to get started, it's just not productive. They did clean it up and get rid of some of the trolls, of course now, this forum goes dry in the summertime.

I like helping people out, anybody whose met me knows I'm a nice laid back guy who likes to have fun. I'll gladly answer most questions on here, on my youtube channel, etc.

That said, there are some questions on here that get asked so often it's ridiculous, and they are not just the basic, newbie, fundamental questions (ie is it worth it yet, how far up are they, etc.), which can be found with a simple search. Most people on here are not appreciative of having to spoon feed

My favorite has always been the ones that ask what the creek conditions will be a MONTH or more before their planned trip......

"Hey guys, I'm driving 7  hours from Bumpkin ville in a month, what will the creek conditions be?"

No, not asking if there will be fish or if it's "worth it" ....but what the flow and level will be....no foolin'

I'm coming from a Bumpkinville not one person on here has heard of to catch some chrome. Am aware it will be gin clear, but bringing my fine selection of emerald shiner streamers, and my secret mop fly that won a one fly event on a stream far away years ago, yet still gets scoffed by fly fishing purists everywhere.

Screw the purists man, they're stuck in the 18th century. Mop flies are my go to for stocked fish, although never tried them for Steelhead, so maybe it'd be worth it to run one on a tandem rig...

Do you guys get any other species on them?  I'm all about using whatever catches too.  I like the McGyver style stuff too.  I missed a nice fish this summer on a straw rig at the beach...  Mine are a little fancier, with a strip of prism flash tape on it.  I wouldn't doubt they'd work on the perch schools when active.  Emerald shiners and glass minnows are pretty similar looking.

I'm going to tie some of these up on jig heads and see if panfish are interested.  It looks like something they'd destroy when active.

I've caught river smallies on them, would definitely be worth trying for panfish.

I just put in an ebay order for some mops and what appears to be the yarn used.  If not, then my kids will have some fluffy yarn to make crafts with...  It won't be my first wasted purchase on that site.

    "Purists" ????....in Erie PA tribe???

    Puh-leeze...

Don't tell me there are anglers  that make fun of other anglers for their fly choices??
I understand some folks like more or less challenge to their fishing.
But claiming to be a purist while fishing in shallow ditches over "stocked by the millions" fish  is....well pretty silly really
