Replacing cross bow string and cable

When should you replace the string and cable on a crossbow?  I have a ten-point titan crossbow I bought about 7 or 8 years ago.  I bought it off of a friend and he had it a couple of years. I have never replaced the cable and was just wondering if I should replace it.  Any thoughts on this?  How do you tell if it is bad?

How often should I change my string and/or cables?

TenPoint Crossbow Technologies recommends changing the string and cables approximately every three years under normal use. Both the string and cables (including steel cables) will stretch over time and result in lower draw weight.

Depends on how much you shoot and wear seen on the string. I have a  Horton that got about 7 season on it. Except for the first year sightings it in,it's only been shot but 5 shots a year.  I know that sounds bad but it's true two or three shots at the target and two shots at two bucks 's in two states for the last 5 years. It's a far cry from shooting thousands of arrows from my bows. I use to start July 1 st  and shot a minimum of 30 arrows a day building to 60 shots or more a day. The X bow is a from of archery but not the same,I'm just not capable of pulling a bow back 30-60 times a day. I wish I could but I'm just getting to old.lol

Got the string changed only.  The guy at archery zone told me he would have to get new cams to change the cable.  I told him it would be better to buy a new crossbow.  He agreed.  He said I could harvest a deer with this bow so I will hang on to it a while longer.
