Youghiogheny River conditions at and above Ohiopyle (tributaries as well)

Was looking to get out this weekend and want to know if there is any water that is fishable in that area. Checked the USGS site and it says there is ice at Ohiopyle but not at Confluence. Is this correct? Any help would be much appreciated.

Too cold & too high a water for me.
I'd say your best bet would to fish the Tailrace section.
The Corp is running the dam off at 250 CFS, it probably looks like the surface of the moon there.

What's considered the Tailrace section? Also, I'm not planning on heading up until Sunday and I've been keeping an eye on the USGS site and the water is slowly coming down so by Sunday the levels could be quite good.

The Tailrace is the section from the outflow of the dam to where the Yough and the Casselman River meet.
Route 281 runs right over top of it (the Yough) as you drive in towards Confluence if your coming from the Route 40 side. Good luck if you get out.

Alright. Thanks! Has anyone had good luck fishing below the outflow at this time of year previously? I know the last time it was stocked was Aug or Oct so do you think there'll be some good fishing?

Let us know! How's the rock snot situation down there? I've been avoiding the area as i don't want to bleach my gear.

Hadn't heard of rock snot up at the tailrace. I heard it was found near the boat launch at Ramcat. That doesn't surprise me. I'd blame the spread of rock snot (though I don't think it's that big a deal) on the rafting industry (that's why it was first found at the boat launch at Ramcat & the boat launch at Ohiopyle).
Even though I general only fish Laurel Hill and the Yough, I still dry my gear after each outing. If I'm fishing both pieces of water on the same day, I take 2 sets of wading gear.  Don't know if it means much in the grand scheme of things, but I'll try to do my part not to spread it around.

Right now the guage height is 3.95 and flow is 253 cfs at the outflow.
    Perfect conditions.
