DEFRANKS FLIES - BEWARE

This guy's name is Mark DeFrank and operates DeFranks Flies and Guide Service out of Uniontown PA.  He's been ripping people off online and on ebay.  Takes your money and doesn't send the goods.  Complaints about him on ebay and his one Face Book page (he has 2).  Just giving you all a heads up to steer clear of this guy.

I don't know the guy. But I've heard of him. His feed back on ebay is pretty good. Have you contacted him? Not trying to defend him, just curious.

he never replies.  complaints on his Face Book page state customers have been waiting months for their items.  They never arrive and he ignores emails and voice mails which makes me suspect of the recent positive feedback he received.

Never met the guy, but he has a youtube channel where he shows you how to tie his flies, and I've had some success on them. Always seemed like a good guy who knew what he's doing, it's a shame he'd do something like this.

That's the link to his older Face Book page showing the old pics from 2014 and the current complaints from last April to now.  He's still around as evident by his second Face Book page but no signs of anything fishing related.  UPDATE:  THIS LINK NO LONGER WORKING.  You can access his fishing Face Book page by going to FB and searching Mark Defrank and clicking the link to the left.  Sorry I'm a bit obsessed here but I hate getting ripped off and this guy's a ******* THIEF!

Dispute the charge and leave negative comments.

Also add him as a friend on Facebook and put him on blast. Looks like he was active liking posts back on the 4th of this month for his Bday.

How long have you been waiting for the goods? Ebay if pretty good about protecting the buyer.  Dispute the charge and they will deal with it and resolve this for you.  I order some flies from him through ebay over the summer and they arrived in a week or two.

They need to have a version of that "Catch a Contractor" show for this, except make it with guides/ fly tiers. "Catch a Guide" or something like that.

Me too............  Correct me if I'm wrong, no money exchanges hands until the item purchased, has shipped.

No BTDT, they don't ship til they receive payment.  The whole ebay system seems to work pretty well and ebay stands behind the buyer in cases like this.  I've made close to 400 purchases on ebay over the past 5 years and this is the first issue I've ever had.  This guy is actually still selling on ebay (can't believe they haven't shut him down yet), taking people's money and not delivering the goods.  If that isn't out and out theft I don't know what is.  This is crack head behavior, or given where he's from, meth.

I agree the seller gets an email telling them payment has been received and its OK to ship. When you print a shipping label Thur EBay they notify the buyer their item has been shipped. Normally there is a tracking number assigned that tells the buyer who the carrier is,USPS,ups or fees, when you check the tracking number it tells you who and when the package was picked up from the seller. I've watched some of my stuff take the longest way possible to get to me. Having said all this I can't see why your money has not been refunded.

Re: DEFRANKS FLIES - BEWARE 2016/01/12 21:32:24 (permalink)
Correct fellas, the "seller" get's a notification regarding the payment but, neither EBay, Amazon, PayPal or any of the other bonifide sights take money directly from your "banking account"  until shipping confirmation is made by the seller.   Last I knew, there is a statement posted on the sight regarding this issue.

When you purchase an item, a verification of funds is required from your bank who in turns puts the amount due on reserve.   Different banks have a different policy regarding the time the funds will be reserved and you may even see the charge appear on your bank statement even though you may have not received or, even cancelled, a purchase.  However, the amount appearing on your statement should be noted in such a manner letting you know the money is only reserved and not withdrawn.  This is a safety valve whereby you may contact your bank/credit card and cancel a transaction should you be unhappy as in this case of the flies.

Any electronic commerce operations would be crazy not to offer assistance and investigate complaints regarding bogus sales of any kind.

For those selling and buying from an account maintained by the electronic commerce operation I would certainly think you would know how your money is being handled.  Last I knew, they operate in the same manner as a bank or credit card.

So you see, no exchange of money occurs until after the seller verifies the item having been shipped.

I recently fired off a nasty gram to Amazon regarding an order I placed then immediately canceled (less than ten minutes passed).  When I received my banking statement there was the amount for the canceled items.  Amazon was kind enough to explain to me just what I explained to you.

My problem, stemmed from my bank not showing the money in reserve, being returned to my account, because Amazon did not notify the bank of the cancellation.  Apparently Amazon, figured the "reserve time limit" would just expire.

Once again, not trying to argue, just explaining I am right.

Ebay refunded my $33 in full.  His store is still up and running and able to accept payments.  Has ebay gotten so big they don't pay attention to things like this?  I told them on several occasions what this guy is doing.

I have bought from him a few times in the last year or so.....never had a problem ? Items are reasonable priced and always shipped quick. Its been a few months since I bought flies from him, maybe something changed ?

If you use E-bay and/or Paypal, you are covered. Getting your money back is a breeze if you don't receive your items. You file a complaint, the seller has the right to dispute your complaint, but typically a no response and lack of evidence showing the items shipped is enough to get your $$ back quick.

I don't really see anything alarming on his feedback ? Some good, some bad, but nothing that would prevent me from ordering more from him. He has nice stuff. Some hand made items just take a while to get.
