Anywhere fishable

Like the title states, is anywhere fishable right now? Walnut, any mile streams? I finally have off during the week and was suppose to be heading up tonight to fish tomorrow morning. Worried water is muddy.

Planning to head up tomorrow afternoon myself so been looking at conditions this evening.

Would imagine the smaller streams would fine tomorrow, assuming not much more precip falls tonight.  Walnut should OK by morning.  Elk might be a tough go in the AM but better later in the day.  Angler maps and stream descriptions on the fisherie.com page can be helpful if you're not familiar with smaller streams.  And not all of 'em are on the east side.

The bay might be a little choppy, but fishing structure around the bay and just to the downwind side of the bay can be productive too.  Wind looks like it might be out of the south for a good part of the day tomorrow, so even the lake at the creek mouths might be OK.

According to "The Charts" Walnut peaked at 6.86' just after 7:00 AM this past Sunday and as of 5:30 PM this evening the gauge is saying 4.58 ft.

I have no idea of the accuracy but, it may help with deciding to fish, when and where.

Ohhmagosh don't wait till Saturday. I was there yesterday (Tuesday) and we got a few despite almost blown out conditions. Today woulda been perfect, and tomorrow should be great.

Unless the forecast is "100 percent chance of rain" and creeks are already spiking, I've never changed plans to go because of weather forecast. And in all those hundreds of trips only once did I get burned. Get to know the gauges and it's fairly easy to predict.
Now polar vortex cold...that's one thing I won't mess with.

Wednesday and Saturday are my only options this week. Being that I live far away, I can only go when I find someone to take the trip with me.

I fished lower Elk yesterday and today water was perfect today.
Not many fish around hooked 4 yesterday 3 today saw a total of 5 other fish hooked up in 2 days.
Had 1 fresh one rest were old fish.
I still enjoy getting out and fishing but the catching has not been that good this year for me.
I am sure there are fish to be caught somewhere but I am not finding many.
Good luck enjoy...
Check the forcast and dress warm.
This is an honest report not trying to talk anyone out of coming up I feel bad for you guys who travel long distances.

My son and I and a couple of friends fished a few hours Wednesday evening and most of the day yesterday.

Stream conditions were real nice in most places, good flow with some visibility but not enough to really see into holes that were more than a couple feet deep on bigger tribs.  Checked some smaller water, and there were hardly any fish there.  Heard first hand reports from other guys of the same on other smaller water where you could get a reasonable look.

I don't know if I suddenly suck at steelhead fishing or if it's really a tough year for steelhead overall as this was only my third trip up, but Erie continues to kick my butt this year.  We got a handful of older fish and a couple of fresh ones to hand.  A handful of fresh chromers in faster water put up nice fights but got the long distance release.  Plenty of other fishermen we saw and talked to reported much of the same.

If I was driving 4 hours like you are, I'd save the money and time and do something else fun.  I'm done making the 2 hour drive for steelhead until next fall.

Thought so too old dog. Definitely not much of a run in the smaller streams where flows were clearing and you could see. Elk and Walnut were still up and colored enough that we couldn't see into the deeper runs and holes. Maybe there were some fresh ones but the big temperature swing had em sluggish. Would be glad to fish next to ya sometime!

No, you still got it, R**2.   It's been the worst season since I've moved back, almost 15 years.  Especially the east side. Twenty Mile was awful, all fish staying near the mouth in slow water.  I got a few, but it was tough. I even fished Walnut a few days, and you know I hate that place.  One day on Walnut, in October, I had the whole creek from the stop sign to Manchester.  I found 5 fish, caught one.  Fished Sterretania and Rick Rd. several times, best day, 2 fish.

In 30 days of fishing, I had one really good day, with fish actually running past me.  Near Uncle John's. Yeh, I've been all over.  But this newbie who I helped limit out put a stop to it by wading into the middle of the creek.  After I told him twice, don't go in the water.

I'm hoping spring might be decent.  I'm getting too old to get out in this cold and ice.  There's always next year. :-)   Lord willing.  Getting up there.

Hope to see you and the boy on the creeks somewhere next year.  On the east side, I hope!  I haven't seen anyone this year.  Not even Skip.

I did not even make the trip up. I recently found a wild trophy trout section on a stream here that I never fished. First time caught 11, today I caught 13. It's all browns in this section. Better than driving 4 hours for nothing. I may stop coming up more than once or twice a season now.

Sounds like a great day on the water Chet. Glad you had some fun.

Pete, would be glad to share a drift with you again Some time. As long as that little stream is open we'll keep checking it out. Despite the tough fishing on it twice this year it remains our favorite. I'll let you know when we're heading that way next fall.

You mean that place next to the other place, just down the road from that last place after you turn at the place? Four hours from here...

No......  No.... Noooo you can't get there, from here!  You have to go there to get here, in four hours.

Guys THANK YOU for the info. I found the hole between the 4 trees. I can't believe how many fish were stacked up! Trout were hitting the lure before it even hit the water. You woulda have to been there to believe it!

lol - So how much snows up north? Last I heard was around 7 inches and possible for another 6 or so next couple days.
