I was down there a couple weeks ago for about 4 hours in the afternoon fishing my friend's dock about a mile below the lock. Didn't even see a fish, unless you count emerald shiners. Had three rods out with golden shiners plus casting 8" Jerkbaits for musky with no luck. Maybe I was fishing too far down though.

chab412, Last time I was there you could go right across the road from the bait store & go over the hill to the dam. sam

crappie, you are right about the lock, but I didn't think you could fish from shore there. We fished from this side from shore & wading, usually did very well. sam

Dont have to be right up against the dam/lock, just wanted to be close to it, I've heard and read that it is a pretty good area for wading, at least on the bait shop side, also something about a sunken barge, down river a bit from the dam

chab- there is a sunken barge and you can wade depending on the flow height of the river. You can fish on the lock side of the river, but it is a bit of a walk to get there. Good luck!

Don't try wading until you're down past the sunken barge. It's pretty obvious, but it's a steep drop on quite a bit of the shore line there. Also, the river is 3' higher than the low summer levels when most people wade there. Be careful. Fish with a friend and use a wading staff if you're not sure of the lay of the land. Sunken trees being washed down stream can really sneak up on you. I've seen it there myself.

crappie, We would wade out from the barge & throw jigs for eyes & slabs.Coming over the bridge we could tell by how much of the barge was above water what the water would be like. That was before most of us didn't know about the river gauges on the net. We caught some monster Crappie up to 17" & eyes up to 30". But most people were afraid to eat the bigger ones due to pollution worries. Those days of wading are over for me. sam

The Turnpike Bridge?
