Never stay at Uncle John's campground
just an FYI after 5 yrs... never again every year they over book/ double book us to some degree this year they F-ed up a moved our reservation to a different weekend, even after I booked a year in advance and confirmed 4times the were unapologetic/ unhelpful/ unwilling to fix their admitted error I feel bad for the front office reservation person (it changes each year, since they get run off after trying to deal with all the BS) I've heard lots of other similar stories from other people just a warning stay away

For what you pay to stay there, you can have a nice clean motel/hotel.
Met some friends there after fishing 2 years ago... For what they paid, I said nooo thanks. I'll wake up 30 min early and drive to the creek.

I've never stayed mostly because of the prices. I have payed to park there a couple of times, and the owner did seem a bit full of himself.

With the pfbc access lot just a few hundred yards it's about pointless to give this fraud any more money.
Uncle Johns is a joke. The facilities are deplorable. Never again will we stay there. There are many better options up there. Like Follys End. Not to mention that Jim is a great guy and keeps the portion open to the public.
Everyone that's had a bad experience make sure you go over the Uncle Johns campground facebook page and give them a one star rating.

Thanks for the heads up guys. I am getting ready to leave in a couple hours for my first steelhead trip. I am planning on staying for 4 nights and after reading this I think I will be going to a hotel in Erie instead of the the cabin at uncle johns. Any recommendations on hotels?

Have stayed at the Green Roof and it was fine. No complaints. For $10 more, you can get a little nicer room at the Clarion Inn right at the entrance to Presque Isle. $5 breakfast bar ain't too shabby. Indoor pool and hot tub if you've got kids, which I do and my son loves staying there a time or two each steelhead season. Lots of other food choices within walking distance.

I stayed there there 3 weeks ago it was fine .
Mercury jet, & Tohotsu prop. Lowes boat, ST. Croix poles Shimano reels .

Green Roof Inn or Follys has a room in the pavilion that sleeps 4 and has a kitchenette/fridge/coffee maker/bathroom.
