New Guy - Highland Park Dam

I just joined the forum.  Long time fisherman and thinking about fishing the HPD dam again.  I used to fish it back in the early 80s when you could walk thru the marina.  I found the storm tunnel access yesterday.  I also saw some shady characters hanging out at the entrance of the tunnel.  Anyone ever have any bad encounters with any less-than-friendly folks when walking through the tunnel?  Is there another way in?

I am thinking about trying to throw some soft baits for walleye from shore.

Thanks.

I've never had any bad encounters but that doesn't mean it won't/can't happen. I have only heard second (or third) hand of cars being broke into or vandalized. Never heard of any physical confrontations. I live very close and use the tunnel to fish (if only for an hour) maybe 30-40x/year with ~80% being at night. Everyone I have met in the tunnel has been friendly minus a couple young boys about 8 years ago (I'm guessing 10-12 year olds) that were just hollering obscenities, lol. I have gone through during the day and the following evening noticed fresh graffiti. But, I have never come upon an active painting.

I have seen, what appears to be, underage kids drinking to the right (NE corner) of the back of the parking lot.

Thanks.  Glad to hear that you have using the tunnel without issue for a long time.  I will give it a try.

I  would be UBER packing while walking thru that tunnel. And fishing stinks there anymore- 3 years ago there would be 30-40 guys there on a fall day, now there's maybe 5.
