Ok legs feel good let's take a walk........started out 3:00
Total about 1 1/2 miles.  found a nice fresh rub on a 8 inch locust tree.
Stopped at the intersection of 2 fields.
Large cherry tree split and 1/2 lying 20 feet from the wood line.
Snuggled in along side...watched a beautiful sunset.
Bleats, grunts, sprayed doe P around
Rolled out to stand up and 20 yards behind me walks a small 5 point.
Tormented him for ten minutes with bleats.
He ran out and turned bad twice.
Jumped my regular 3 doe on the way out...
Saw a nice turkey roost on other hill.....I think that's' where I'll be tomorrow---
IF the stupid rain holds off

BIG WAGS
I awoke,
I dressed,
I walked,
I slipped,
I climbed,
I sat,
I shivered,
I gandered,
I peered,
I glanced,
I frustrated,
I returned,
I bewildered,
STUPID DEER

YEAH..................  WHAT HE SAID!!!!

Recorded low, on my thermo-meter said 20.7 for last night, frost sure was purty when the sun popped-up then, all gone.  Just like the deer I would say.

Captured a picture of a scrub-buck hanging around my stand at three thirty this morn. and that was that.

Weather dudes saying 100% chance of precipitation by 5:00 am and continuing through noon for my little piece of Penn's Woods.  Guess it'll be coffee and pop tarts in the ground blind in the morning.

Mopars, you sure do get some great pictures, is that a scrape you made?  Hope that old boy get's anxious about the rain screwing up his scent and comes out early to freshin the scrape while your setting in your high chair tomorrow.  Good luck.

Wags, keep your reports coming, makes me feel better.  Best of luck to ya, there's still plenty of time.

Can't wait to see what happens when the stupid deer find out I moved a couple of my stands and, they don't know where.

Eyes thanks, I think a little luck would be just the thing about now.

Walcat.....................

Spent all day in the tree today. I almost purposely drove off a bridge on the way home. I missed a great buck at 8 this morning. Shot over him. Happened so fast I just misjudged the distance. To top that off, I also missed at doe at 11. She ducked my arrow.

I passed a nice young 10 point up at 1:00. He was only 13 inches wide and appeared to be 1.5 y/o.

Happy about seeing some deer. Pretty upset at myself for missing after so many hours in the stand over the past 2 weeks.

Don't know if it's lock down or no but there's a lot chasing going on. I hunted Ohio saw 3 does quit hunting at 10am due to a bad cold and a coughing fit. On my drive home in Pa. Saw a giant running a doe in a golden rod field, then saw second small buck trailing those two  big buck put on quite a show ramming and chasing off the small guy. I watched them for 45minutes. After lunch went in the woods behind my house in search of a turkey, but saw a 8pts 15/spread run a doe around and around. No Turkey' and little to sick to be in the woods.
I glad it's going to rain, good day for soup and rest,so I ,can seal the deal in Ohio.

Went out to try and get a doe so I do not have to join the orange army.
Saw 2 spike bucks they both just strolled through shooting lanes 20-25 yds sniffing
Saw some does in distance right before dark oh well really nice day to be out enjoyed it.
Good luck- I work tomorrow try again Wednesday.

WCW and akita - Congrats on two great bucks!

I've been hunting hard the last week and just can't seem to figure out where the better bucks are hiding.  I've been seeing a lot of young bucks acting like complete idiots, but I only got a look at one decent buck thus far.  The does seem to really be on edge and haven't been moving too much, which has been making my plan to stick near them difficult at best.

I'm gearing up for an all day sit tomorrow.  Sooner or later my luck has got to change.

Thanks Essox mine was lil guy but very enjoyable hunt and my freezer is filling up.
I am in 1B and talked to or got texted by several successful hunters Saturday and Monday.
Does are real scarce and I was seeing a lot around.
Going out in morning to try get one of them does probably just see bucks but looking forward to just being out should be good activity tomorrow and Saturday.
Good luck get out when you can anything can happen...WCW

Sat from 10:30-5:30. Saw 2 doe after 4 o'clock. As esox said, they seemed to be on edge. The first one slowly picked her way trough the woods in front of me for 40 min.

Stupid Deer...silly humans

I wake up early get ready to go out its raining lightly not forecasted or showing up on radar but just enough rain to lose blood trail I figure.
I decide that I am up I will go out it will stop soon.
Get to stand 6:30 at 7 a doe suddenly appears but its still raining she was a small 1.5 yr old so I pass.I wonder to myself as she strolls by if a buck is behind her then GRUNT GRUNT.
Pull phone out and take video of 10 pt strolling by posing at 20 yds in shooting lanes I got no buck tag I just smile and shake my head as he strolls on by.
Stayed out til 11 am no other deer sighted.

Saw 3 different bucks pushing three different does in three different fields on my drive home from work today. 1 was a shooter, one looked legal and the other looked like a 1.5 year old. This was between 4:30 and 4:45 pm. Swung by to pick up my deer from the butcher and got almost 70 lbs of meat back. Eating some pepper sticks watching the Pens right now....
Hope the forecasted wind holds off but it isn't looking good for the next couple of days.

Almost T-boned a big bodied buck today on the drive in to work. He looked "OLD" and on the decline, antler wise but was a horse of a deer.  May have had 4 or 6 pts. left (high and massy, but gnarly and some could have been broke).  Glad my car's front end did not make his acquaintance.  ABS went on due to the rain/wet leaves and it was close.  He was on a mission.

Saw a bunch of deer out in the fields too.  Hope some of you are out for the first fews hrs today before the heavy wind starts.

Re: Early season results?? 2015/11/12 12:58:57 (permalink)
Thought I'd hunt the "bottom lands" this morning, following a well used trail into the tall grasses and cattails looking for a place to set-up along the swamp and watch for what might be lurking about.  Wasn't ten minutes after I found a good spot where I was hidden by the tall grass but yet, had two good shooting lanes to the deer trail(s).  Somebody on the pond, hidden by the tall grass and cattails opened-up with a ten gauge bazooka, shooting at what I don't know but, it's been two hours now and, my hair (what little I have) on my head has yet to lay back down.

Not wanting any more of that, I reverted to 'part b' of 'plan a' which was to return home and say "screw them stupid deer"!

Sitting in my favorite deer stand, watching my flag pole as the wind tries to rip it, along with my flag, out of the ground.  Playing a hunch; 'plan c' calls for returning to the bayou this afternoon, hoping this strong gusting wind will drive the elusive white-tail along the "bottom land", affording me a chance to see what one of the things look like.

In the meantime, I can only hope, the wind also drives the dude(s) with the 10 gauge bazookas to the other side of the hill.   However, in the event that I might still have company I shall be prepared to answer any bazooka fire with several 3" mortars I have remaining from the 4th of July.  Provided I can ignite the fuse using a Bic lighter in this stupid wind.

Pictures at 11:00........ maybe!
