Lol some people will give u a pretty smart answer to a question like that.
It's mid sept and temps have been very high. Now they're finally comin down and with some precip. Sure a few steel may show up. But it ain't gonna be the muther lode. Go see for yourself and let us know.

"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men."

I was going to make the trip this am for a few hours but the water gauges I checked still looked like a blow out. There's gotta be some fish after the water drops as this was a cooler rain and heavy enough...someone will be happy later today or tomorrow jut not me!

Into the 80*f for highs by Tuesday will increase the water temps and force them out. Happens every year this time of year one day(sometimes even few hours) fishing will be good the next poor. Need shots of rain every 4 days to make the run come in.

We get the hook up right across the board in NY, right above Northeast at holiday in express. 49 a night! Makes the trip very reasonable. Always play the weather unless it's mid winter, then you know they are in.

I just had to go find out for myself, so I did yesterday (Sunday) and fished lower Walnut and Elk.

The most heard phrase on the water yesterday, "They have to be somewhere . . ."

One guy I talked to late in the evening caught one jack and lost one in the morning.  He said he saw two caught in the morning.  I caught two smolts on lower Walnut - not sure if they were wild ones or stocked ones that were too dumb to leave, and yes, I'm 100% positive they were steelhead smolts.  Other than that, not a bite for me.  I can usually scratch out a couple in the early season like this, but nuttin yesterday.  I did not see one caught or fought from mid-afternoon through sunset.

Water flow wasn't bad, though everything was pretty stained.  Couldn't tell you if fish were there or not.

I did the same - watched some guys fishing walnut with no luck. Went to lower Elk and ended up snapping my noodle rod so was a short trip.

But no hits and seen none caught. Couldn't tell if fish were in Walnut or not as RS stated above. Water was stained, but had good flow. Lake was kicking as well from the winds.

I too was at lower nut in the AM and then again in the late afternoon, but the water was roaring pretty good in the morning and went back home. I didn't see any fish, nor anyone hooking up. The water had nice color to it and I'm sure there were a few in there. Heck, I saw a few steel and browns caught a few days prior to labor day weekend. But yes, it is a tad early. Water is still at 70 degrees. Although, it was nice just being out and meeting several nice groups of sportsman.

I went up to walnut last evening and did see fish.   Less than 30 of them between the falls and the mouth.

Enjoyed fishing though even though did not get much action.  Will try again if lake temp drops to 65'.

Hey its just around the corner, bring the wife shop, eat at nice resteraunts, visit the vinyards, buy fresh produce have arel nice visit around Erie Pa. Oh I forgot to mention the steelhead fishing ended about 15 years ago. that was the last epic run. They used to put the fish in the main creeks but enough locals cried because they could't catch them so they spread them so thin there there are 10 fisherman for every fish. JUST THE FACTS AS I SEE THEM BEEN THERE DONE THAT 20 YEARS AGO. ITS A SHAME BUT TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
