The Usual for me. What little interaction I had with him convinced me of the worth of snowshoe. I turned a few of my friends that guide on the tailwaters in the south on to it. A lot cheaper than CDC for emergers and just as effective. Gerry, I can't make the 20th, but I wouldn't mind splitting a trip on the OZ later. I've wanted to see what it's ll about, other than walking the wall Best of luck.

Interesting looking at Flytyer how many people have 'invented" snowshoe flies, many that look just like the Usual. Maybe Fichy is the missing link there, as I think the last one I saw was a tyer from a southern tailwater. Tying recipe is similar to rabbit stew: "First you get a rabbit", I have not found snowshoe feet anywhere in my travels to various flyshops. It is a great fly anywhere that midges hatch!

Black thread and a puff of snowshoe on the South Holston in E. Tenn., doesn't get any better (pun intended). Those southeastern tail waters are midge factories and I did VERY well on them with my dumb Yankee tactics. A material that retains buoyancy by some false casting is pretty dope in my book. One of the hardest things to do with fooling educated trout is fishing a fly right in the film or slightly below. A parachute of snowshoe will float low and suspend the body of a fly just below the surface like an emerging midge, if you don't make more than one false cast. Like many, I profited off of just a glancing blow off of Mr. Betters, even if he was pretty well into his cups when I did.

The DSR is reporting that the run is beginning, not huge #'s but enough to keep their customers happy.

They are all headed to your secret spot Jack. They'll be waiting. I'm going to try to do a little recon mission over the weekend to see for myself.

A few new ones this AM but not many - fish from yesterday in upper DSR and above according to reports. OK---that was IT for this year-- soooo cancel your reservations and go do something else. NO more run for the year. Better luck in 2016 Run is OVER.

I was thinking the same thing that's why I plan on targeting chubs when I go out. Tying some good flies for them now I know they like shells of sun flower seeds having trouble tying that pattern though.

I'll more than likely be up river. I hope to do a few hours before the lacrosse games Sunday or Monday. But will be up next Wednesday through Friday also.

If I could get up there, I might be inclined to be back there, as that is some of my favorite water on the river! And the ball park will be a zoo of yanking and chasing (or chasing and yanking!)

I can't do the ball park hole anymore...The worst of the worst are in that stretch. It's worse than the trestle hole, and that's saying something. The river gets fast in places and a newbie can get in trouble. I was in the ballpark hole up stream of the lot in that big hole. Some NYers were there slinging lead. One of them said he "caught" 10 and it wasn't 9am! Well, while slinging lead, he hit me in the head with his "fly" and I almost fell into the river...He knew he hit me hard and apologized...Wadda you gonna do?

Yinz guys can go elbow to elbow trying to catch them trouts. I on the other hand appreciate a little open water where a guy can be close but still have some room to catch the real Silver Bullets. Check out the real action on this video....... 10-4! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bjvcfw1a8R8

Yeah, that's OK, and i have caught bones. They don't jump .Landing ratio is higher on bones than steel. I also don't like palm trees. I've never seen a patch of flat as pretty as a salmon or steel river anywhere, but that's just me and why I post on this forum.

I targeted bones once in Nassau with the famous Aaron bane. It was a tough day. Spotted maybe 10 bones... Finally got a choice cast (60') on two that were together. Retrieve stripped 3 different times til the fish was 20' from the boat and he finally grabbed it. First run was all of 200 yards to the reef... Came straight back at me... Then another 100+ yard. Finally brought to hand an estimated 7/8# bullet as per bane's estimate. I hope to fish them more often as I get older. Definitely a memorable catch of mine. Fichy I can see your point, but 1000's of salmon and steel have been on the end of my line, but the pursuit and catch of that bone stands out more so than most any salmonoid I've caught. I'm sure i would get jaded though after catching a lot of them

Yeah, bone fishing is way too elitist for me, I'll hang with the scum line on the SR.

Well we waited on the scum line today :). I went 1 for 7 and the boy went 0 for 1. Was a decent outting. Late for my shake the dust off type of day, but fish were good sized and bright. 2 out of the 7 were foul hooked.

I fished the Delaware yesterday with a few old, longtime friends. Had a blast with the smallies, mostly dinks, on Senko's and Keitech's, a couple of nice fish in the mix too. I even managed to boat a 17" waldo. A nice day and drift from just above Barryville to the Lander's take out (Pond Eddy) six or seven miles down river.

Was down in the Genny on Saturday, ZILCH, for everyone down there. They still have not made a push there, and this is getting to be late for that river, too.

Got in later Tuesday to poor reports from fishermen. Rained HARD at night- likely an inch or more. Wednesday awoke to showers in the AM and higher dirty water-fished a few hours bouncing around lower mid and saw ONE fish -a King. Went lower upper Thursday to lower clearer waters and a nice day, finally caught up to the Hos. Two head shakes but none landed or played. Saw a few as they came busting by FAST in ones and twos every fifteen minutes or so for quite a while. Saw ONE more King. Friday got out in AM to the same area and stayed too long never even seeing a single fish. Generally lousy fishing and the Circus started to really show up on Thurs PM. Oh- yea--saw two dead fish- one king and one so far gone couldn't tell what it was. Generally far more deads due to stress by this time even in poor years. For all the reports think the Ho numbers have been better in the past and the King numbers stink- no Steel seen either. Oh yea--- the slash and burn guys were ''catching' some as they buzzed by and in large holding areas like Tressel. It can only get better-I hope.
